Now that I've gotten that out of my system, I started wrapping gifts at 8:20 last night and fin
MIL brought the kids' gifts over yesterday. They got to open some (mostly coloring books, work books, crayons, sewing cards, foam letter blocks, cd books, and other educational stuff), and
MIL had to bring them over yesterday because SIL is staying with an aunt this week who's recovering from surgery. SIL has mental problems and takes issue with MIL & FIL giving gifts. They ususally have to sneak the gifts out to our car during the family dinner and then they don't get to see the kids open them. Sometimes I feel really bad for them, but sometimes I'm very frustrated by them. And that's all I have to say about that. LONG story. I was just glad she got to see the kids so thrilled with her gifts.
#1 Son took offence with the fact that his Grandma didn't get him a "Little Larry-Boy toy." That's the only thing he's asked for and didn't understand that every one isn't getting him one. He'll get it on Christmas morning...probably first thing so he doesn't have a melt down.
Baby Girl went back to school today. "If my ear starts to hurt, I'll tell my teacher and she can bring me home," she informed me as she was heading out the door. I sent a note explaining BabyGirl may have trouble hearing as she has a blister on her ear drum. She was thrilled with the prospect of her teacher knowing this information. Strange child, that one.
Last night I asked her if she knew why we get presents on Christmas. "Yes, Mommy. It's because Christmas was when God was born. And we get presents because the wise men brought Him presents and He thought it wouldn't be fair for just Him to get presents so he wants everyone to get some." She's got a grip on this thing, even if her details are a little skewed. I told her the gifts were to remind us of Jesus, the greatest Christmas Gift of all and that Christmas was when Jesus was born and God has always been here. "That's what I meant." I'm very proud of her. Some day she'll get a grip on the Trinity and such, but she's only 5 now. I'm just thrilled she understands Jesus and God are one in the same.
Yesterday the following conversation took place between Mary (Baby Girl) and Joseph (#1 Son) as they played with our nativity set:
See, Joseph. This is my new baby. His name is Jesus.
I don't really like that name. Can't we call him something else?
No, I already named him that.
But Jesus isn't my favorite name. Let's pick a new one.
Mommy, Josheph won't let me name Jesus, Jesus!
That's the name God gave Mary to name the baby, remember?
Oh...well... OK then, you can name him that, Mary.
BTW, is anyone else having spacing problems with Beta Blogger?

I just got home from Walmart where I bought wrapping paper. Bee informed me that her presents needed to be wrapped in the Santa paper!!
those are just great. I love her grips on theology at such a young age. And find the conversation between Mary and Joseph very cute especially considering that I just came back from seeing the Nativity story at the theater.
so glad the gifts didn't have to be snuck in!
i love reading your kids' quips and quotes.. especially the name discussion!
i have hard time posting pics, too. dial up takes forever!!!!!!!!
I forgot to post what was said after Mary and Joseph settled on the baby's name:
J- "Now we just need to find somewhere to live. Hey, I've got a good idea! How 'bout the barn?"
M-"It's called a 'stable,' Joseph. Yea, we could live there. That'd be o.k."
