I am flat worn out. And it's only 2:30, this isn't good. It all started when the alarm went off at 6:30 and I was in the middle of a dream. You know how hard it is to wake up when you're dreaming? I wasn't sure I could drag myself out of bed...But I did.
The chicks' trip to Preschool today was a roaring sucess...Litterally. I got there in the middle of snack time. The Cheese Nips and juice were quickly forgotten in all the excitement. Ms.G let Baby Girl tell everyone what I'd brought then she had me tell them a little about chickens and eggs and chicks. Who'd a thunk...City Gal like me taking chickens to show and tell!
The kids loved it! One little boy picked out a white rock and informed me that he could take it home on the bus. And I got my first, "Baby Girl's Mom?" from another boy in the class today. We've never really been anywhere where everyone knew Baby Girl and no one knew me. Guess I should get used to it. It was kind of sweet.
When Baby Girl and I got home, Husband and the boys were playing out side. The Danes had to go to the vet today, so I took them in to bathe them before loading them up in the van. That was quite a task! Husband thought I should have left them alone, but they were filthy! I would've been embarrased to take them into the vet's looking like that. Not that Doc G would have cared...He's a country vet. Wreslting a 50 pound Great Dane pup into the tub isn't easy. I thought I'd have to get in with her for a minute. Once I got Aurora bathed, it was Luke's turn. He was a little easier, but still not what I would call fun.
Doc G finally took the stiches out of Luke's eye lid. He looks so much better now. Doc G said Luke won't need the surgery now. I'm so relieved. Since we caught it when he was so young, the stiches were enough to keep that eyelid rolled back...but he has an undecended testicle. (Are
testicles becoming a theme in this blog?) It's not something we need to worry about until he's a year old...So we've got a while to wait. Luke weighed in at 27.8 pounds and Aurora was 47.8 pounds. There are only 3 weeks between them, but he was weaned so early that he'll take a while to catch up.
Now I'm looking at all the cleaning that needs to be done and wondering if we can hire a housekeeper. I've banished the boys to their beds and am hoping for a little peace and quiet...then it'll be back out doors. I can't pass up the beautiful weather no matter how tired I am. The kids need the fresh air, and I need them to run off their energy out side of my living room!
Yesterday we walked the kids over to Big BIL's house to see his new calves. He has 3 holstein bottle calves. They are so precious! I'll try to get some pictures this week to show you. There is absolutely nothing cuter than a new born calf. One is black and white and the other two are brown (or red) and white. They make me want another bottle calf! I wonder if we can trade some piglets for a calf.

Hehe... one of my favorite things on my drive home is driving past the cow field on the road to our house. There are almost always baby calves out there "frolicing" :) Did you ever see Milo and Otis? Every time I see them, I immitate the baby deer's voice "Frolic! frolic!" - If you have not seen it and have no clue what I'm talking about it is a must for the kids.
Wow. Aurora already weighs almost the same as Sasha. I know what a handful it is to try to bathe her... I can only imagine as they get older. You will need a stand-up shower ;) with a locking door.
Have a good one and enjoy the weather. It is finally pretty here too. Even though I feel nasty (thanks to allergies) I plan to dope up on Claritan and sit out on my swing and read for a bit this evening.
Didn't get out side. Baby Girl pulled her chest of drawers over on herself trying to get out summer clothes. So we're house bound until tomorrow...ice packs and swing sets don't mix.
Our puppy Waylon is getting really big also. He has no manners. He wants to jump on people all the time!
Hope that Baby Girl gets better soon!
I admire you for the preschool show'n'tell. Did the chicks survive?
Hope Baby Girl is okay and you all can make it outside today.
Oh, Poor Baby Girl. Hope her boo-boos fade fast!
I thought it was great that you took the chicks in for her class to see! When I taught I'd have parents bring things in occasionally, and kids brought things a lot until the bus drivers laid the law down.
I've had insects of all kinds, dogs, cats, bunnies, chameleons, piglets, frogs, snakes, turtles (that was a mess...Yuck), chicks, ducklings (adorable), and wounded birds (sad)plus lots of tadpoles. Teaching was so much fun!
Now that you've got me thinking about it I think I'll take the kids to the farmer's supply tomorrow to see the bunnies!
