Because I need a respite: Fourth Annual Virtual Tea Party

Yesterday I posted updating you on all things illness & coping around here. Then I started looking at some of my past posts (I'm loving the linked within widget) & realized it's been a very long time since I hosted a virtual tea party. It had been an annual event I hosted on the 21st of February, but this year it slipped my mind.

So, better late than ever, and without further ado, I present to you: FarmWife's Fourth Annual (if a bit late) Virtual Tea Party. Put on your frilliest afternoon dress & matching hat, pull up a cushioned chair, pour yourself a cup of Earl Gray, & enjoy the party.

As a good hostess should, I always start off the day with a few questions just to get the conversation rolling. If you would, please answer them in the comment section below, or on your blog & leave me a comment letting me know you've attended the party.

Trust me when I say this will make my day!

#1. Please introduce yourself & tell us how you came to be a visitor here at Memoirs of a FarmWife. I am FarmWife, and I live here. I've been here since it was known as Confessions of a City Gal & will be here until it's known as Where did I leave my walker?

#2. What book is currently on your bedside table (or coffee table) and are you really reading it?
There are quite a few books on my bedside table since it's actually my dresser & I have a nice set of wooden book ends living there. Currently I'm reading The Count of Monte Cristo (again) & New Moon (again) & have recently finished Wuthering Heights (again) & Twilight (again)...oh, and the FarmHands & I are reading The Tale of Desperaux (again). I do like to re-read my favorites.

#3. Is there anything you would like to accomplish this summer? Right now I'm concentrating on survival. Survival & not watching 18 hours of television a day. So far, I'm not really succeeding at the second part of that.

#4. Did you take any lessons as a child? What kind & did you retain anything you learned? I took ballet when I was 3 & 4 years old & I remember nothing past first position. I loved my teacher though & remember her vividly.

When I was 4, Mama told me I could either continue in ballet or take swimming lessons. I opted for swimming lessons...and in the end, didn't really need them. I started swimming on my own at the first session & ended up spending most of my time with 2 other kids who picked it up quickly while the teacher (who I also adored) spent the hour trying to coax screaming 4 year olds into the water.

After we moved to Tennessee, QM put Bubba in karate. After his first quarter, they enrolled me as well. I only made it through one quarter & then we both dropped out. I remember very, very little of what I learned there. I think I could still throw a punch properly if I had to, but that's about it.

#5. If someone had told you 10 years ago what you'd be doing now, would you have believed them? Probably not. We were having a hard time conceiving & I was on the verge of giving up any hope of motherhood. We were also living in town with no talk of moving to the country...at least no real talk of it.

#6. What are you making for dinner tonight? Not really sure. Probably something very simple. We had mashed potatoes, meatballs, and corn for lunch. Dinner will probably be leftovers or sandwiches. Something that doesn't heat up the house.

Thank you for coming to my Tea Party. I hope you enjoyed yourself & have made a new friend or two. Hopefully next year I won't be so late in my hostessing duties.

Ah, geez, cousin, thank you for inviting me to your tea party. May I have mango black tea instead? And will I get in trouble for saying scones with a long o?

#1. I am Inkling, Farmwife's cousin, currently on blogging sabbatical, but unopposed to attending virtual tea parties provided I can do it in my pajamas. I've been coming here since she first started writing and wowing me with her internet prowess. Because of her, my son has several very cool toques and I know a delightful Sara-with-an-h in the UK.

#2. I just finished a book about this man who prayed a lot called Rees Howells, and a book written in the 1800's called Stepping Heavenward. Now I'm rereading Love and Respect to help remind me how to do this marriage thing again. I also have several board books and a Dr. Sears book that keep me company on the mothering journey. I am keenly interested in having the "no cry sleep solution" coming to a bedside table near me quite soon!

#3. Well, I did want to go climbing and kayaking, but it looks like the fistula will stop me from doing that. I'd also like to travel, but again with the fistula and waiting for surgery. So I guess I'd like to accomplish learning how to clean my house and stay on top of things whilst also having a happy baby. Oh, and I would like to discover how to help my baby enjoy sleeping on his own in the crib we have yet to get for him. These days, I can't really plan anything due to the surgery wait. That has to come first.

#4. I took gymnastics lessons, soccer lessons, and seven years of piano that did not include more than a few hours of practice. It's the practice thing that kept me from becoming a concert pianist. Oh, and I took swimming lessons, which were fairly emotionally scarring due to the shallowest end still being over my head. It sucks to be short as a child, especially when adults forget to put themselves in your shoes in order to help put you at ease. I wish I'd taken art lessons.

#5. Not really. It was 1999, and I was probably in the middle of one of those on again- off again cycles with Tulsa's Blinking Lightbulb. To know that Henry David was actually going to fall in love with me and marry me would have knocked my socks off. On a serious note, to know that I'd be going through all this health stuff now way back then would have scared me to death. Back then, I couldn't handle needles, let alone frequent IVs, and things like internal exams and being unclothed in front of doctors freaked me out. Now, it's old hat. There's a reason we don't get to know about the hard things in life until we have to go through them.

#6. For the first time in a long time, I actually have a plan. I've totally failed in the kitchen department lately. But tonight, I plan to have this incredible marinated cedar planked salmon on the grill with roasted root veggies, grilled green veggies, and homemade foccacia bread.

Well, I have to go now. Apparently, the bambino is not into taking a nap without me. They say babyhood is fleeting, but this whole refusing to sleep without the mama thing feels interminable. Still, I have no regrets about my choice to avoid Babywise and the Cry It Out crowd. I may be sleep deprived, but my child is not abused and my mothering is without regret as of this writing.

At your next tea party, can we have massages and a nap? Just wondering. =)

#1. Hi, I'm A from Are You Kidding Me? I don't know how I stumbled upon your blog, but I continue to visit for the entertaining stories.

#2. At home I'm reading Never Suck A Dead Man's Hand (Curious Adventures of a CSI)by Dana Kollman, and I have A Tale of Two Sisters by Anna Maxted and Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea by Chelsea Handler. I will probably read them all. At work, I'm reading The Fire by Katherine Neville and have Fool Moon by Jim Butcher in reserve. I will definitely finish both of those.

#3. I don't have any big plans for the summer - I just like to go with the flow. Although, it would be nice if I were working on my resume so I could get that fantastic job in Chicago.

#4. My mom says I refused all activities. I took piano lessons, but would quit any time the word "recital" came up. Then I did gymnastics for a brief amount of time until I decided, at 13, that I was too old to get proficient.

#5. I would have been a little surprised by the path that brought me here. I would have been a little surprised by my geographical location. But, I'm pretty much where I was hoping I'd end up 10 years ago - that's when I first became interested in my husband.

#6. I made a hot dog for my daughter. I just had some peanuts, as my 3:00 ice cream snack left me full. My husband is only home half the time, and there's not much point in cooking dinner when he's not here.

Thanks for the invitation to the tea party. It was delightful!

Hi Farm Wife,

Please may I have decaf Earl Grey ?

1. I found your entertaining blog via another equally amusing one - Sarah's The Secret Life of a Housewife.

2. I don't read in bed, far too much sleeping to be had, but I have a pile of books waiting to be read, some of which are : Love Letters by Katie Ffiorde (which I am reading), Secrets and Shadowns by Mary Nickson and The Road Home by Rose Tremain.

3. I would like to top up my vitamin D levels and get a slight tan, relax and enjoy the summer.

4. Violin - always sounded like screaching cats claws so gave up; horse riding - had a bad fall like everyone else but my teacher made me get back up and keep going and I did.

5. Nope. I think you have to work through your own life and no-one know's what will happen over time.

6. No time for dinner - off to the ballet ! (will have toast later). Sorry, that's not great is it ?

Thank you for inviting me to your tea party.

As someone who has been asking dancers a lot of questions lately I thought it would be good for me to answer yours, and it has been. Many thanks and I look forward to the next one - summer is way better than Feb for a tea party !!

Hello Farm Wife,
I have not attended such a party as this before, but do you mind if I drink my coffee with cinnamon creamer?
1. I am Penny from Small Town Girl Thoughts..I dont keep up on my blogging nearly as well as you all do, but I will try to do better. I found your blog through The Silver Lining, who is a good friend of mine from my old church in Illinois.

2. I am currently reading Harbor Lights my Sherryl Woods. I am a huge Danielle Steel fan and I must confess I have EVERY book she has ever written in hardback in my entertainment center. I just got her lastest in the mail Tuesday and the library called and said another Sherryl Woods book I wanted to read was in. I read mostly on my lunch hour. I also read lots of Karen Kingsbury, John Grisham and Nicklas Sparks.

3.Mostly just getting things done around the house. We are going on vacation next week, a couple days of camping and then just at home. we have 2 flower beds I want to redo, some painting to do and I want to wash all the windows in the house. We are also working on getting more exercise by walking and riding our bikes.

4. No lessons unless you can call learning to play the clarinet in school band lessons. Did that from 4th grade till senior year. In fact I still have one and can actually play it!!

5. NO way...I thought I would live in Illinois forever. Now I'm in the big city of Indy, doing the job I've always wanted to do, married to the most amazing guy ever and I even have my 2 sons living close. God had plans for me that I would never have dreamed of!

6. Dinner tonight will depend on whether there are any kids at home. Hubby's 20 yr old son is living with us for the summer and his 17 year old son lives with us. If they are home to eat, then I will have to think of something, if not, we will do leftovers. I have some salmon that I cooked on a plank Tuesday and Italian sausages that we cooked Monday that need to be eaten. Friday is date night, so we will eat out then.

thanks for letting me attend this party and just to let you know, I love reading all the blogs of Farm Wife and Suburban Princess!! You guys are so nice and it is refreshing to hear what your days are like with your children.

Farm Wife! Excited to hear you know of Francis Schaeffer... How Should We Then Live? is pretty much my favorite book of all time!!! Cheers to that! Have a wonderful day! God Bless!

Oh dear! I'm late for tea!!! but I'm hear despite my tardiness.

#1. I am Zann, I'm in East TN. I came here when you wrote and told me you were finally getting online and that you were starting a blog.

#2. Well there's the Bible, and though "Don't know much about History", and "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay up Late"

#3. I'd like to just stay afloat please. Have enough freelance work to stay afloat, and see the family a bit more. That's pretty much it.

#4. Oh yes, my mom was big on extracurricular activities. I took: Clogging- I remember one step "double-toe rock step"; I also took Karate briefly I never made it past white belt, I quit because they made us run laps - later took Tae Kwon Do from my ex, still didn't make it past white belt but still remember some blocks, and a few kicks; I took a cooking course that I remember nothing from as a kid, I took swim lessons - and I guess I remember most of it. And I took a drawing class, which I don't remember much about other than it being at the Arts Guild. I think there were a couple of others but I can't remember.

#5. no. Ten years ago I had just lost what I thought was the love of my life and had no idea what the future held for me, I started trying to focus on my career instead of on having a family life of my own - met my husband that August.

#6. I made spaghetti and added some crook neck squash to it, to give it a few more nutrients and because I needed to use the squash before it went bad.

I wish I could edit my comments.
I do know the difference between here and hear, but not when typing late at night.

#1 is suppose to read: Though it isn't on my bedside table I'm reading..."Don't Know Much about History"

#4 the other one I couldn't remember was Hand Bells, all I remember is how to ring it...nothing more.

I feel better now.
