It's about friggin' time.

Eight years ago today I was very pregnant with a baby girl. Our BabyGirl to be exact. I had visions of her dressed in sweet little dresses. Wearing adorable shoes & funky tights. And topping off the whole picture were hair bows. Lots & lots of hair bows. Hair bows holding back a sweet little bob...just like all the little girls at the Presbyterian church back home. So cute. So girly. So Southern.

Then BabyGirl came along & she was....well...follicularly challenged. All my babies were. They had a dusting of fine hair. Just enough to cover the scalp, but not enough to do anything with. And three weeks or so after birth, their hair all came off in the wash leaving them looking like old men: bald on top, hair in back.

Once her hair grew in, BabyGirl would have nothing to do with hair bows, pony tails, or anything at all in her hair. I wonder now if this wasn't all part of the SPD we knew nothing about. To this day she rarely lets me pull her hair back. She'd rather run around all day with hair stuck to her neck with sweat than pull it back in a pony tail.

At any rate, when Bitsy came along, my hopes soared again. Maybe this time I'd get a baby with lots of hair & she could wear all the bows that have been hanging in my linen closet for years. But alas, she ended up mostly bald too. Last summer I started trying out bows in the wispy bits of hair she had. She wasn't too keen on them & they were too heavy for the dusting of hair she had.

Recently Bitsy had discovered the wonderful world of hair bows. She loves wearing them. I love it when she wears them. And now we're moving on to pony tails & pig tails. She still doesn't have much hair. In fact, she's sort of rocking the baby mullet (the picture is not Bitsy, but looks eerily like her from the back)...and a bit of a comb over. I told QM that all she needs is a perm & she'll have the bad hair tri-fecta. But we work with it. We wet it down & slick it back & slap those tiny rubber bands in & hope for the best.
Now I'm hoping to foster this obsession & nurture the girly girl living in my Bitsy. I think I'll pick up some ribbon next time I'm at the store....

My girl has always had great hair - from the lovely mohawk she was born with to her lovely long hair now at 2. However...she is not a fan of the cute bows and barrettes. She likes ponytails, but pulls the bands out continuously. She needs a haircut, so she doesn't look quite so much like no one ever combs her hair. Sigh.

Of course, her hair would look much better if my husband and his mother had not been allowed to cut it when she was 5-6 months old! My SIL actually forbade my husband to cut our daughter's hair anymore.

I thought that was Bitsy. Her profile definitely looks like her.

Well, you know Bee and her bows when she was smaller. Every single day. Short bob and big bow. Definitely a southern thing. Then one day, she just wasn't that interested anymore. Now, she occasionally asks for a bow, but not near as much. I miss those days.
