My Girl

As I am typing, I realize that it was exactly 6 years ago this minute that I first laid eyes on my BabyGirl. She was born at 4:50 in the afternoon after about 6 hours of labor. Not bad for a first try. When they handed her to me all I could do was stare at her lips and think, "They're so perfect. So tiny & perfect." Her ears got the same response from me. For some reason I was fixated on the two.

My girl is strong willed in the extreme. While that makes me worry that she'll give us serious problems when she's a teenager, it also lets me know she won't be easily led into things.

She only wants to wear dresses. And refuses to wear anything green. She loves all things pink and purple but will occasionally condescend to wear blue or yellow. I have to make sure there are sturdy dresses she can wear around the yard and frilly ones for Sunday School.

She loves to swing as high as she can and will occasionally push her brothers in theirs. She loves to play make believe. There is usually a damsel in distress to be rescued so she spends quite a bit of time convincing her brothers to play rescuer.

She has blond hair & brown eyes. I was once told that means she'll be smart. While it is true in her case, I'm not sure if this is a common myth or not. But I'll take it just the same.

She loves to sing Amazing Grace & The Star Spangled Banner. She also sings Beautiful by James Blunt & Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash. If not singing, she's usually whistling. Somehow, she can manage to do both at once. Her newest number is the Lime in the Coconut song.

She wants to be a mommy, a teacher, and maybe a farmer when she grows up....after becoming a princess of course. She wants to teach reading just like Miss Ray in the reading room at school. She loves books (like her Grammy & Mommy).

She once told me she want to live in "the biggest house in the whole world" when she grows up so she can have 3,604 kids. Guess I'll be busier as a Grandma than I am as a mom. Yikes!

She adores flowers. Dandelions are some of her favorites. They are on equal ground with lilies, roses, and tulips. We planted bachelor buttons under her window this year, but I don't think they're doing so well...she checks on them frequently.

She loves everything girly & princess themed. She loves to play at getting married & having babies (usually multiples, almost always twins). She dances through the kitchen and wants to be a ballerina most days.

She loves animals. You can usually find her trying to convince a cat to swing with her or trying to cajole a baby goat into eating out of her hand.

She's her Daddy's girl. He can do little wrong in her eyes. They've been in love since she first heard his voice in the delivery room. The feeling is mutual. I love that they love each other so much...but sometimes it means I have to play the heavy.

My Girl is beautiful. She's smart. She's imaginative. She's creative. She's kind & caring (when she wants to be). She's a wonderful big sister (also when she wants to be), and I cannot wait until she meets Bitsy. She's funny. She's ingenious. She's my source of Joy.

Happy 6th Birthday, BabyGirl. Mama Loves You!

What an amazing, precious and precocious child.

I feel like I've been given some insight into what Emma will be like three years from now. =)

Well happy birthday Baby Girl!
I had forgotten that my neice, B, and BG were born near the same time as each other. B will be six next month. But reading your descriptions I can say they are about head to head in their interests at the moment. I see B more often. So it gives me a way to imagine BG. B also refuses to wear anything but dresses. :)
