A Late Night Stumble Down Memory Lane

Q.M. brought her video camera with her this weekend. My mother is not what you'd call technologically savvy. She can turn on the digital camera & take pictures, but down loading them is Daddy's domain. As is transferring video to VHS tapes, checking cell phone voice mail, and setting up tripods.

She wants to use the camera to tape an interview with her parents. I asked if it was to be used in a later deposition or only for the benefit of family entertainment...I'm pretty sure she's going to use it to try to get her hands on their millions. At any rate, she headed North with camera, tripod, various cords, and no less than5 mini tapes for the camera. The problem is that she's been on to Daddy to transfer the videos and he hasn't done it. In how long (?) you might ask...well, what I am watching now (due to a bout of insomnia) is from April 11, 2004. It's a nearly 3 year old BabyGirl in the church Easter pageant.

Can I just say, my child made this show? She and her little friend/cousin, Chey, were pretty much turned loose on the stage to entertain as they saw fit. Husband's grown cousin sat on the floor behind the kids preforming with poster boards and snacks for the girls. The older kids are standing in a jagged line, mumbling into microphones, staring at their shoes, and being all around miserable (with the exception of about 3 who are really into this acting thing). And the little girls are flitting around them, chasing each other up and down the aisle (to their mothers & back), coloring, snacking, waving pom-poms (that were part of the show), sporting sunglasses, and having a wonderful time.

I've also watched a short bit from Inkling's youngest brother's wedding reception. It's 15 minutes of people walking around randomly in a room. No one really looks into the camera or addresses it. And there are some fabulous shots of Daddy's shoes...but my favorite part of that tape by far was the 45 minutes of black screen. That was the result of the lens cap being on, the record button being pushed, and the camera forgotten possibly in the back of the station wagon.

Earlier today Q.M. and I watched the videos Art and I took when she and her kids made the trek to "Eloise" as Lulu calls it here. It was so funny. There's lots of moms yelling at kids, kids yelling at moms, BabyGirl chasing Lulu in the attempt to kiss him, and Syd belting out a little Johnny Cash in between her cat hunting activities. I had nearly forgotten how much fun that weekend was. Constant head counts, wiener roast, tractor ride for Lulu with Uncle Gick, lots of time spent watching animals, hunting for chicken eggs, Syd waiting for BabyGirl to get out of school, and B.B. being the first of my kids to fall in the pond (I knew he would be).

I cannot wait to see what's on the rest of these tapes! Of course, I may want to go back to bed before it's time to get up for church.
