Actual Conversation from a Moment Ago

#1 Son- You bought Andrew at the store in a very long day. (Andrew is the dog & "in a very long day" is #1 Son speak for "a long time ago.")

Me- No, I got him from a lady soon after Daddy and I got married.

#1 Son- How did you know you wanted to pick that guy?

Me- Andrew?

#1 Son- No, Daddy.

Me- He was cute.

#1 Son- Why didn't you pick someone else to marry?

Me- Because then you wouldn't be here.

#1 Son- Huh? Why not?

Me- Because God took a little bit of Daddy and a little bit of me and made you in my belly.

#1 Son- Oh. But why did you marry Daddy?

Me- Well, I met him at church and I liked him. We went on some dates and we fell in love so we got married.

#1 Son- Oh, OK.

BabyGirl- I'm already in love.

Me- WITH WHO?!?! (Knowing instinctually that it isn't her dad or brothers she's talking about.)

BabyGirl- Austin.

Me- Oh, does he know that?

BabyGirl- No. It's a secret.

Me- Is he your..........boyfriend? (Trying to play it cool.)

BabyGirl- (nodding her head yes) But it's a secret.

Me- Does he know that?

BabyGirl- No. I said it's a secret. (The "duh" was implied.)

Me- Oh. OK....Are you planning on...marrying him? (Since this is what began the conversation...apart from the dog.)

BabyGirl- Yes.

Me- (At the risk of sounding like a total moron) Does he know that? (I know I'm beginning to sound like an idiot to her at this point...but I want to know Austin's intentions toward my daughter...or more likely, her intentions toward Austin.)

BabyGirl- No.

Me- Are you planning on telling him?

BabyGirl- Yes. In third grade.

Me- (hesitantly) OK

BabyGirl- Yea, third grade's a good time to tell him.

At least he'll get a heads up before the rehearsal dinner.

Now B.B. is battling imaginary Coyotes. He's planning on setting them on fire. That's nice. Yesterday he was chucking race track pieces at them from across the room...not safe. Oh, and I think the coyotes are green. Hopefully he'll be distracted by The Upside Down Show and give up the hunt soon. We love David and Shane at our house!

Did I mention it's 78 outside right now? And partly cloudy...and breezy? And I'm stuck in the house with 3 sick kids? This Mom & Farm Fairy & Inkling, I'd send some of this your way if I could!!

Just put a stamp on their rumps and mail them. I'm sure the customs officials would let them through quickly, especially if they acted normally. I can either mail them back to you, or stick them in my suitcase and bring them back in June. If I put them in my suitcase, I'll be sure to leave holes for air. =)

Exactly. And that is why they need to visit BC. Baby Girl can find her prince charming, and #1 Son and BB can find beautiful princesses to marry. Actually, now that I think about it, you all should just move here. Farming is BIG in this area, and your hubby could have a ranch or a farm and play outside all day. You could make it a blueberry farm, and I could bring all my friends to come pick blueberries at your farm, and we'd give you lots of good press so you'd be the most popular blueberry farm in all of BC. I totally agree with Queen Mother. Expand that family tree. Come to Canada. =) (Now, I'm in trouble with Queen Mother and Pa for saying that. But I do miss you. So you really can't blame me.)
