Sheen, my turkey. Isn't he a handsome fellow?
What a morning. We got up and got ready for church despite the constant drizzle that is hanging around this morning. We dressed and headed out the door in time to make it to church at the end of the opening hymn. B.B. gave no regard to the prayer being offered and shot up the aisle to sit in our pew as Husband and I hung out quietly in the back of the sanctuary. Now I should state that we attend a small church. On a good day there are about 60 of us (We usually average around 55). And of the 60, only about 11 are not related to me in some way.
We made it through opening exercises for Sunday School without too much drama and headed down to our classes. Baby Girl was the only one in her class this morning (there are usually about 4 of them) so she had her Great Aunt CB (who's the teacher) all to herself. After class Baby Girl wanted Husband and me to come see her art project. It involved glitter and glue and needed to dry. I asked her what she learned and she said, "About God!" Good, anything else? "Yea, and the devil." That's when I began silently thanking the Lord for Aunt CB because she is a fount of unlimited patience and scriptural knowledge she can relate to small children. Baby Girl has been very intrigued by the idea of the Devil (a real life bad guy to God's superhero status in her mind). I told Aunt CB that this had been a big issue of curiosity in our house and she totally understood. Then Baby Girl informed me, "We talked about the Devil's tricks and lies, Mommy. And I won't ever listen to him."
Then we headed up for "big church" as the kids call it. First thing is Children's Minute where Aunt CB takes all the kids to the front pew, gives a short object lesson, and leads them in a song. The lesson was about showing the love of Jesus to others. Then they stood up to sing "Jesus Loves Me." As soon as the song began, #1 Son hollers, "Yeah, but I don't really like this song. I like Larry-Boy." But for some reason he didn't sing it (thank goodness).
Husband took all 3 kids down to their class room during Communion (they had had all the "big church" they could handle). I was surprised when he didn't come back up to the sanctuary once the Children's Church teacher went down to class, but I figured one of the boys wouldn't let him leave peacefully. About half way through the sermon I heard a familiar car horn honk just outside the window at the end of my pew (where my van was parked). When it honked a second time I realized someone had hit the panic button on the remote of our key chain. Husband had the keys and he was in the "new" addition with the boys. I hopped up and trotted out of church as quickly as my heel clad feet would carry me. When I found him I asked if the boys had the keys, "Yes, why?" the panic button, "No way! We're too far," apparently not. By the time I got out the side door, the honking had stopped...I kept the keys just in case.
This wasn't the first time we've had such fabulous adventures...nor will it be the last, I'm sure.
But as our preacher's g'daughter told him this morning, "This is the day that the Lord has made." I will rejoice and be glad in it, come drizzle, panic buttons, Larry-Boy, the devil, dirty dishes, fighting kids and all.

Oh my. What a day
Tech Mom was telling me about this post (my mil). I think it reminded her a little of the church she grew up in and when hubby and his brother were growing up. Are you sure you don't go to Avoca Bible Church?
LOL You had a very adventurous day!! Can I just say that I'm so glad my boys are out of the Larry Boy stage. Been there, done that, don't ever wanna do it again. I think I've seen Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed at least 2692 times... no foolin'!!
