Go, White Girl, Go, White Girl, Go!

Last night was my first Zumba class. It was awesome. If you have a chance to check out a class near you, I highly suggest it. Even if you've watched the infomercials & said, "There's no way on earth I can move like that." Trust me, there will be plenty of people in your class who won't move like they were born to Samba.

I was a bit nervous about it & was thrilled to find out Beffie was going to go with me. Aunt C. and J watched the FarmHands while Beffie and I went off to "shake our booty butts" as Bitsy would say (yes, I'm absolutely thrilled that Shrek commercials have added the word 'booty' to my 3 year old's vocabulary).

We snagged the much sought after spots in the back of the class, but in the end, that mattered little. There was enough turning in circles that there was no "safe" place in the room. A sense of rhythm was optional in our class & I was very glad for that. If I don't have to do specific moves, I can keep a beat, but trying to keep one while following the instructors steps was an exercise in futility. OK, so that's a bit of an exaggeration. I think I did pretty good. I'd have been kicked of the video set in a heartbeat, but for a Mid-West White Girl, I think I shook it with the best of them.

I woke up this morning fully expecting to ache past the point of dragging myself out of bed, but honestly, I felt good. A bit on the sore side, but nothing worth writing home about. After a few hours in town today & a grocery cart full of "Mommy, can we get" I felt the burn a little more. Still, I cannot wait for next Thursday...and that infomercial is looking more & more appealing.

The FarmHands loved what Zumba did for them. They spent a fun filled evening with J (their idol) and a Wii fit, then Mama came home high on endorphins to take them out to hunt fireflies and jump in the pool in our clothes....in the dark! It was almost the best-night-ever!

I agree with Elle Woods. "Exercise gives you endorphins. Endorphins make you happy. Happy people just don't shoot their husbands, they just don't." So Husband should be safe for the next few days, anyway.
