A new dilemma

I seem to have a Netflix dilemma. I keep putting movies in my que & thinking, "I really want to watch this. The previews looked really good!" The movie comes, I watch it, and it's horrible! Case & point: Love in the Time of Cholera. Ugh. Before that was The Bank Job. That would have been a decent movie were it not for the gratuitous nudity. What do bare chested women have to do with robbing a bank? Truly, nothing. They could have been just as easily left out. Boobs were in no way a pivotal plot point. Again, Ugh.

I have sense enough not to order movies like Shira: The Vampire Samurai or Two Orphan Vampires (directed by "the master of the lesbian vampire movie genre"....really, who knew there was an entire genre devoted to lesbian vampires?). I try to stick with movies that are a bit more well known or have been suggested by others or some such thing. American Psycho? Let me steer you away now. Apparently my idea of a thriller & Netflix's idea of a thriller are two different things. I don't mind a good serial killer flick every now & then, but that was just wrong.

So, anyone seen any good movies lately?

On New Years Eve we rented Meet Dave and Hancock.

The Family like Hancock, because of the unexpected twist in it. Nobody saw that coming.

Meet Dave is king of corny but if you look at the message it was trying to give, it wasn't bad.

We watched Juno recently and really enjoyed it. Don't watch it with kiddos around, of course. ;)

Another movie I think you would really enjoy - Stardust. Think Princess Bride.

We're due to get Burn After Reading next, just because the absurd movies appeal to the both of us.

Well...you can never go wrong with James Bond...although I understand that Quantum of Solace was a disappointment (haven't seen it yet)...and we liked Live Free or Die Hard...ummmm...Astronaut Farmer, Tristan & Isolde, Timeline (the only Michael Crichton novel that I LOVED as a movie), Nanny McPhee, Miracle, Invinvible (gotta love good ol' Mark Wahlberg - and he leaves his pants up!) :D

Pan's Labyrinth was really good if you haven't seen it. Right now I'm hung up on historical documentaries.

We have been watching the seasons of scrubs on our netflix.

I agree with Needles Juno was hysterical. I was a little afraid all thru the movie, but I really liked it.

The queue is a marvelous, yet dangerous thing. Makes you think because it's a good deal, you can sacrifice hours of your life on movies you'd otherwise avoid. I know, I have done it. I still do it.

You know, I rewatched "Mystic River" recently and wondered why I don't own it. Wonderful, insightful, dark.

Oh and "Juno". . . so sweet, so witty, such a good movie. Move it up in your queue!

On a side note: Movies to avoid: "The Women" and "Burn After Reading*". So disappointed. So very disappointed that I almost wrote a nasty note to Debra Messing and Brad Pitt. *And I am a true, blue Coen brothers fan.

So this is totally corny and cheesy, but funny....Grasshopper got me The Pacifier for Christmas. One can never go wrong with an annual showing of You've Got Mail, BBC's Pride & Prejudice, and the first two Anne movies (the third is a travesty of literary proportions and should be outlawed, so don't watch it), and the newest Narnia (again, I'm throwing a fit over the Caspian one because I have issues with creative license when the literature is more than wonderful). Aside from those, we also loved the Ron Clark Story (totally inspiring), the Emperor's Club, and Amazing Grace. I could watch all of those multiple times.
Oh, and then there's the Yaya's, which I think is worth watching every couple of years.

Finally, I think a classic that every home should have is Elmopalooza. Makes me love John Stewart all over again.

I love Slyvester. It is a story about a young girl raising her sibling since the death of her mom. She works in a stock yard. Saves a horse, finds a home, trains the horse, Oops, I can't give away the plot. It has Richard Farnsworth and Melissa Gilbert(Little House on The Prarie).
Happy ending, no nudity unless you count the horses.

I have to disagree on Pan's Labrynth. The critters in it gave me nightmares at 30 yrs old and it's certainly not appropriate for kids.
It's interesting but certainly not a family movie - I found it kind of disturbing.

We just watched James and the Giant Peach for the first time. We enjoyed it. And I second Stardust. It was great.
