They canceled school at ten o'clock last night. We have no snow. We have no ice that I can see. Uncle E said the roads were slick last night, but I have no idea where. So I have four kids stuck in the house all day while the skies hang gray but nothing is falling.
Of course, knowing before hand that we didn't have to get up early for school sparked a glimmer of hope that I would get to sleep in a bit today. Why I ever think that is beyond me. My alarm rarely goes off, someone always wakes me up before it's time. This morning it was Bitsy...at 5:45!!
By 7 o'clock (the time we have to get up for school), all the FarmHands were awake & Bitsy was clambering at the baby gate to, "Pway!" with the boys in their room.
Last night I baked 6 dozen cookies for BabyGirl's class Christmas party. I followed the Nestle Tollhouse recipe to the letter for a double batch of cookies (can I just say my new mixer powered through that dough like nobody's business?) & according to the recipe one batch should yield 5 dozen cookies. I even used an actual tablespoon to drop the cookies onto the baking sheet. That should have given me 10 dozen cookies. Uh, no. I got exactly 6 dozen...and that was with M&M's added to the recipe & giving the bowl a good scrape to get out the last of the dough. Where do they get their figures?
My pfefferneuse are baked. Ice packs are made & waiting in the freezer. I have a list of things that must be done before Friday morning. Guess I'd better get to work!

I've always wondered how they get their numbers, 'cause I also never get the amount they say I will!! Who knows!!
that's weird...my MIL found me a little scoop (like the kind you see in ice cream places) and I always get 5 dozen with that...of course, they never last so it wouldn't make a difference if it was 5 dozen or just 5 cookies...they'd still be gone in about 2 seconds flat.
Oh wait! Did anyone sneak any dough out of the bowl? That does cut into ours...
Ohhh! I want one of those little scoops! Uncle E & Aunt C have one. Pampered Chef I think. I just never remember to pick one up when anyone is having a party.
And for the record, I snuck less than a teaspoon of dough...more like 1/2 a teaspoon. Only the dough that stuck to my fingers after I finished scraping it onto the cookie sheet. :) And the FarmHands were banished from the kitchen. I didn't want anyone sneaking a cookie or sneezing on the freshly baked ones! Ugh.
Same problem I have...a recipe says feeds six, right!
