The Big Three

As a child raised in a home funded by one of the Big Three American auto companies, the daughter of a man employed by one of the Big Three, & the granddaughter of a retired employee of one of the Big Three, I refer you to my friend Terri & Mitch Albom (not my friend, but someone who hit a nail on the head in my opinion).

As my father says, how can a group of men responsible for helping the national debt climb to near historic highs ($10,669,388,946,030.63 at time of posting) tell the auto industry that they made their own bed & now they have to sleep in it? Is it just me, or is that the pot calling the kettle black?

I am not for full blow bail outs. Carefully plotted guide lines & strict enforcements are very necessary. But give a hand, would ya Washington?!

It's so hard to figure out the full story - and God knows I hate the thought of those idiot CEO's flying their private planes places - but I too don't see why the banks are more deserving of bailouts than one of the industries that practically built this country. I hope that something can be done.

While I'm no longer a fan of American made cars and think they should have been putting more money into researching hybrid options more than the money they spent on marketing (the money that went to people like Tiger Woods), and I wish they would have had the balls to say, "Even though our Hummer-sized gas guzzlers are selling big right now, we are going to stop making them and start making environmentally friendly cars even though you buyers out there will think we are stupid, because we have integrity that believes the bottom line should matter less than doing what is right," I agree that it's ludicrous for the government to bail out companies that look more like criminals and ignore the Big Three. Yes, they made a bad bed. But so did every other company begging for help right now. If they are going to bail out CEO's who made stupid choices, they need to bail them all out. They can't be selective.

The government has spent so much time wearing suits and ties and never getting callouses on their hands or dirt that embeds itself on their fingers until the skin replenishes itself that they are out of touch with the thousands of employees who go to work in steel toes and coveralls. It's those guys (and gals) who are going to get hurt if the suits don't wake up and reach out.

Today is one of those days when I just want the world to stop so I can get off. Businesses are so greedy and their greed is killing my country and the country I now call home. People don't understand where I'm coming from. I'm far from family. The phone is too freaking quiet. And quite frankly, I'd pay money right now for a woman to come and hang out with me just so I can talk to someone and not be so lonely while I'm working at chores. (I realize the last complaints have nothing to do with the auto industry and our misguided government, but I really do want this world to take a pause so I could get off and go hide somewhere tropical until I feel less crappy. And maybe by the time I want to get back on the world again, the auto industry will be running on french fry oil and car companies will have ceased laying people off.)

Inkling, I think if you can find a major company that truly operates by the phrase, "we have integrity that believes the bottom line should matter less than doing what is right," I think you would have found the proverbial needle in the hay stack.
