Feeding the FarmFamily

My first canning experience was successful. Busha & I raw packed 5 Qts. of green beans. I'm thinking one quart isn't going to seal (the glass of the jar seems a bit on the thin side, so I'm wondering if the jar isn't good). But even at that, I'll just stick it in the fridge & we can have it with lunch tomorrow.

Canning isn't as difficult as I thought it would be (especially since we decided to raw pack). Now I'm looking forward to trying my hand at tomato sauce.

I've decided that this year is our practice run at a garden, canning, and such. I sent #1 Son out today to tell his dad I want him to get us a deer since the price of beef is going through the roof. We're on our way to being self fed...well, that is if we can start making our own Kraft mac & cheese and frozen pizza.....

I am so jealous of your massive garden...I really am...I only wish we could turn our entire yard into a garden so I could grow all the veggies and fruit that we eat...

As for the deer...I really wish that BB was a hunter...I absolutely love venison, and elk, and rabbit...honestly! I'd rather eat that than a hunk of cow any day! as long as you don't take away my bacon...we're all good!
