Leave them alone & they'll want you home

Seriously, no one wants to know anything? Not a single Ask FarmWife question has been submitted. I'm curious....

I thought I'd fill you all in on how Husband and the FarmHands survived my absence. The FarmHands have been away from me a few nights here & there...hospital stays (on my part) and sleep overs (on theirs). Husband had BabyGirl all to himself the weekend of Did's wedding, but he's never had more than a day alone with all three of the older kids. Even when I was in the hospital having babies, QM & Daddy were here to take care of the FarmHands & Husband was with me.

#1 Son was very worried about being left alone with his dad. "What are we gonna' eat, Mom? Daddy can't cook!" First of all, you don't have to be Jamie Oliver to make shells & cheese & ketchup & bread. Secondly, Husband can manage in the kitchen well enough to feed them simple meals.

Then #1 Son looked at the washing machine I was loading & moaned, "What about the laundry? Daddy doesn't know how to wash clothes? What are we going to wear?" I told the poor child I was washing all the clothes then and I was pretty sure his wardrobe would make it through 3 or 4 days...and Daddy does know how to wash clothes, he just doesn't do it often.

When I quit my job to stay home with BabyGirl, we made a deal. I do the inside chores, Husband does the outside chores. I've never mowed the lawn. Can't run the weed eater. Rarely feed any animals. Do none of the vehicle maintenance. He doesn't do laundry, dishes, cooking, or cleaning. If I'm sick or incapacitated, he jumps in. It works well for us. The down side is, the FarmHands think he can't do those things.

As a result I got daily updates from #1 Son about how his dad was taking care of them. "Daddy bought us Cheetos and even we have Popsicles, Pop-Tarts and Yogurt!" They did not starve, but there are no Pop-Tarts, Cheetos or Go-Gurts left in the house. And the In-Laws took everyone out to eat on Saturday, so I know there was at least one opportunity for vegetables (not that any of the FarmHands would have eaten them).

#1 Son called me Saturday. We saw on the caller ID who it was, so I answered. "Hi Mommy!"
"Oh, hi bud. How are you today?"
"I'm OK, but Daddy's bleeding on his head!"
In the next second & a half, my brain went wild. What happened? Is Husband conscious? Who can I call from Mama's cell phone that can get to the house quickly? How did #1 Son dial this number? Where's BabyGirl? Why didn't she call her emergency numbers? Wait, I can hear Husband's voice...."Bub, is Daddy OK?"
"Yeah, he just wiped the blood off." Husband said he thinks he scraped his head outside & the scab came off in the shower. Oy.

Now #1 Son keeps asking me what I did on my vacation.

Well, what did you do on your vacation?

I'm sorry that the kids are under the impression that FarmBoy can't do things, but glad to know no one died, starved, or went naked while you were away...
