Get your story straight

Sometimes it's irritating to have such a large family. FIL is the oldest of 8 kids. That means there are many different routes for stories to come down through. By now I pretty well know which routes are reliable & which to take with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, I don't always keep that in mind when I get my information.

At anyrate....Uncle E is doing better. He's in the ICU because it was the only place in the little local hospital where they could monitor him all night long. He's on morphine for pain & the doctor wants to be sure his ribs don't shift or rub on his lungs causing one to puncture. All the rib breaks are hairline, but even with hairline breaks, there can be rough edges. He said he's feeling 85% better this morning & his pain is way down on the scale from where it was yesterday. They may move him to a regular room soon.

The actual story is: He was picking cherries while standing on his ladder. He was about three rungs up the ladder (not very far off the ground at all), when the ladder broke. He tried to kick the ladder out of the way so he wouldn't land on it, but didn't get it far enough away. He landed on the ladder on his shoulder/back. He hit so hard he couldn't breath for a moment.

As for my diamond...I fear it is long gone. Since we have no idea how long it's been missing, there's no way to know where to look for it. Husband asked BabyGirl about it first thing Saturday morning & she knew nothing about it. "But I have a diamond Mommy can have!" she said & started hunting for the "diamond" a little boy at school gave her last year. I nearly cried at that. She's been in love with him on & off since pre-k, so for her to offer me something he gave her is a big deal.

I talked to the three oldest FarmHands about it & none of them seemed to know the ring was even in that box. If one of them did lose it, they really have no memory of it. It's not hard to know when they're lying. None of them can look you in the eye & keep a straight face when lying.

So for now I am diamondless. Maybe I can convince FarmBoy that the two months salary still applies. Hmmm....I'm off to hunt for loose diamonds on the interwebs.
