I knew my old cleaner (a Dirt Devil Swivel Glide Vision) was on it's last leg, but I was a tad mortified to see just how much it was missing. I had to empty the dirt cup once before I'd even finished the living room! I dumped it three times by the time I finished with all the carpets.
The new one has two filters that can be removed & washed (a BIG plus for me) and a HEPA filter that's to be replaced every 6 months. The old one had a filter you could beat the dust out of but not actually clean & a HEPA that I'd never replaced (after 7 years...whoops).
Other pluses:
- The brush stops if you set the back of the vacuum upright so you don't have to worry about excess stress on the belts.
- There's a switch to shut off the brush (the old one was supposed to shut off when you set the carpet height to bare floor, but it never really did).
- The entire canister lifts out. If you're cleaning base boards or cobwebs off the ceiling, you just carry the canister & leave the body of the vacuum behind.
So far, so good.

YAY! I'm SO glad you like your new vacuum! I love mine (not the same as yours) and am definitely on board with the whole "Take out the cup, dump, and wash" thing...I hate the old bags, and the yucky filters that never quite get clean...ugh!
I heard a Kirby salesman once say "you should vacuum each path of carpet 7 times back and forth, and you should vacuum one day of the week for each person or animal in your household". I scoffed at the idea...until I lived in a house with 2 dogs, 3 cats, a husband and my son...all I have to say is I hate when door to door salespeople are right!
We bought a Dyson off of craig's list (LOVE craig's list!) on the cheap and man! I never knew how bad my old vacuum was until I used the new one!

Dang! No wonder my carpets only stay nice for the time immediately after I vacuum!
Kork, your point is depressing, but true. So VERY true. :(
