This morning I was checking my comments when it occurred to me what a small world we live in. If you check my side bar, there is a rather long list of folks blogging that I know in the 'real world.' There are 19 links in that category alone. When I started blogging, I only knew Needlefingers & Pilot. They're directly responsible for all this. Until I read their blogs, I thought they were only for techie geeks & comic book junkies living in their mom's basements (I can say that as I've dated a few).
I read Pilot's blog and it had a decidedly political theme that day (I didn't know that it was not his normal post) & Needlefingers gave detailed descriptions of her latest knitted triumph. While I enjoyed reading what they had to say, I didn't see what I had to add to the world of blogs...I don't handicraft much & am not overly political or analytical. Then I noticed they both had a link in their side bars to someone I'd noticed commenting on their blogs, so in my curiosity, I clicked. I was sent to Ragged Around the Edges' Write On. She can claim full responsibility for my blogging...if she'd like.
I cannot tell you what Miss Ragged posted about that day. I can tell you there was a picture of her kitchen table with the late winter light spilling across it & she told about her day. It was simple, but really pulled me in. At that moment I thought, "I can do this." I may not be as eloquent as Ragged, but I can write about my life. I can write about the kids, the farm, our adventures...and Confessions of a City Gal was born.
Since then I've changed templates, Blog titles, and a few names. But what I'm most proud of is my ever growing side bar. Since I've started blogging I've not only met 2 other bloggers (Ragged & Brando), but been followed into this world by my mother, my aunt, a handful of cousins, and a passel of friends. Many of them I lost contact with years ago (Skaught, A Wandering Heart, Jackie, Grace). Some of them I've talked to on a regular basis for the past 10 years (Inkling, Art, Did, Kork). I'm thrilled to get to know all of them a little better, and I'm thrilled that some of them are getting to know each other (at one point Inkling, Grace, Kork, her brother, and I all attended the same college but at different times).
And don't even get me started on the new friends I've made around here. If blogging makes me a techie geek (yeah right...I can't even figure out how to burn a CD with Vista), then so be it. I'll give up my suave persona (again, yeah right) to say, "My friend Emily who lives in Utah, My friend Sarah from England (and one in Michigan, and one in Indiana), My friend Nan and her grandkids, My FarmFairy & Ang who run a fabulous on line business in the PNW, My friend Anonymous from Australia...and so on."
God bless you all & thank you for bringing the world to my living room.

I think I had the same initial thoughts about blogs that you did. My brother had one... it was a bit more political. Then crt introduced me to hers and some of her friends' blogs.
Thank you for sharing your stories on here!
: ) Long live blogdom, indeed!
Happy Tuesday, FW!
Bless your heart Farm Wife ! I have to say that if you had told me this time last year that I would have friends like you, all over the world, and that I'd know how to post and do links and quizzes and pour out my heart, I would have thought you were crazy. But I thank my lucky stars that I started to blog. I started through my uncle and now I can't wait to get up here and read about what you have been up to.You have helped me through horrible times and been a true friend, as have Joshua and Emily and Trixie. Gosh, I must stop - this is more like a whole post than a comment !! See how addictive it is ??!! Take care Hunny Bunny ! Sarah x
Don't forget my little bro and his wife also went to that little college in the middle of a cornfield!! Seriously, I can't believe the world that has opened up since I started blogging! It's wild!
