I am so not ready for this

Yesterday was school registration. yipee. Can you sense my excitement? Yeah, it's practically leaking all over the place...
I packed up all 4 kids (yup, you read that right) including one screaming soon to be first grader in over 100 degree temps. and headed the five miles down the road to the school. We'd been to town for groceries & supplies that morning so had to register after Husband left for work. For some reason BabyGirl went into full blown nuclear melt-down when I told her to get ready to leave. The ensuing fight was not pretty & she was still unhappy when we got to the school.

I was thrilled to find the AC wasn't functioning at 100%...heck, I'd be surprised if it was functioning at 30%. It was HOT in that school. But we got lunch forms filled out, picked up physical forms, paid for milk, filled out #1 Son's registration form, visited the pre-k class & teacher, peeked into the first grade class, and left with a stack of papers and the student handbook.

This year they've split up the first graders. Last year BabyGirl's class started out with 29 students and ended with 28 (it's a very small school as far as public schools go. Pre-K through 8th grade, one class per grade). That's a pretty big group of 5 year olds. Yesterday I found out that the school board didn't want to give the kindergarten teacher an aid to start out last year. They wanted her to try things out for a week before they made a decision. Yeah, right. Thankfully the Principal (who was new last year) put his foot down and demanded an aid for her.

This year they've been split into two classes. I found out BabyGirl's teacher is a woman who taught there in the past, but was moved a few years back. She's thrilled to be back. I've been told she is an excellent teacher. I'm very happy about this.

BabyGirl is not happy about it. She doesn't know Mrs.G and her two best friends are in the other class. I'm not sure it's a bad thing as I get the picture that BabyGirl is more attached to the girls than they are to her. There's no one new in her class, but maybe this will help her make friends other than the two she's had since pre-k.

School starting means a little down time for me while #1 Son & BabyGirl are gone, but it also means a whole new set of stressors. Homework, lunches (what do you pack for the pickiest kid on the planet?), busses (BabyGirl isn't happy about this prospect either), pick-ups, Daddy time (if he can't get to day shift), alarm clocks, getting everyone ready in the morning...Part of me would rather we linger in an eternal summer vacation. The other part of me is trying to arrange the budget to send everyone away to a Swiss boarding school (that's the part that's listening to fights, screaming, toy box dumping, furniture leaping and the like).
