snow...maybe.

The snow is falling gently down across the yellow field behind my house. That's not yellow as in wild mustard, or vibrant, sunny yellow...it's the dead grass kind of yellow...not quite brown, yellow. At any rate, I am protesting this snow inwardly and wondering if I can pick BabyGirl up from school early if it starts to seriously stick as I hate to drive in it...as I do not drive well in it...as I should not drive in it. You'd think after 10 years back in Illinois, I'd have given up and learned to drive in the snow...but no. I am firmly sticking to the few years I lived in the south and refusing to budge from the house if it snows. The only problem is, I pick my daughter up from school everyday. She doesn't like to ride the bus, and as it doesn't get here until a full hour after school is out, I don't want her to ride it. 9 hours from home are about 2 too many, especially when we only live 5 miles from the school.

Don't get me wrong, I love to see snow...for the first 24 hours. Then I'm tired of the white. I am not a fan of the cold. I get cabin fever. I'm with the Queen Mother in her opinion that snow wouldn't be bad if it would fall only on yard and trees and houses and leave the sidewalks and streets clean (like that old Walgreen's commercial). So the predicted 2-4 inches has me in a mild state of panic. Sorry, Inkling, I won't be moving to your neck of the woods anytime soon.

So here I sit in my bathrobe typing away and trying to ignore Mother Nature floating around my house...and wondering where all my female ducks have gone. Husband can only find the males this morning...that's 4 ducks missing in one night. But the pond is frozen, so they don't have their natural escape route. I hope they show back up, but I won't hold my breath.

Aurora (the Great Dane) is preggers and about to pop. Husband told me she was in heat back in December. We weren't sure Luke was old enough to breed yet, so we didn't have high hopes. Guess we were wrong. Husband put boards down in the floor of the shed to keep the pups off the dirt (as that's where most diseases that kill puppies live), hooked up the heat lamp, and put her in the shed last Friday. Now we just have to wait and see. We figure she's due near Valentine's Day, but with a first litter, there's no telling when she'll deliver. I'm surprisingly excited about this. In the past I've been a little miffed when Husband has bread one of our dogs. I know these are to be sold, so I'm OK with them...until I have to give 15 people directions to our house through the country & drag pups away from their mother to show off to strangers...

The snow really is coming down. I am sure in nothing compared to what Inking has seen, but Yin keeps asking to go outside. I keep telling her it is too cold.

Hang in there!

oh my..well I hope the snow has slowed down for you and doesn't heat back up until all are home and safe with you. Time to burrow in and dig out the comfort food.

It's been snowing here since around 9:00 this morning. Everything's covered at this point and it's still coming down hard. We've got at least 3 more hours of it probably. They havn't called off school. Probably because they all went in two hours late because of the cold.

You are wise not to let Baby Girl ride the bus...especially for that length of time. Too much happens on there.

I'm excited for you about the new litter. My gkids would be in heaven if they lived with you!

The kids were out yesterday and today for combination cold/snow/illness. We're still watching to see if there's some coming in tonight. It won't take much to close schools down with the temp this bad.
