Boy was I wrong. The screaming and fighting of yesterday (a Saturday stuck inside due to rain with 3 grumpy kids...one of whom is ill) topped off with my swinging hormones was enough to make me crack. I thought I couldn't handle much more.
Last night things got a little better. BabyGirl went to bed early. #1 Son went to bed with no problems...and B.B. went on sleep strike. He didn't fall asleep until half way through House (at 10:30). Husband and I didn't go to bed until 11, then we talked until 11:30 or so. For most adults this is no biggie. It was a good hour past my bed time, but since BabyGirl was sick, I knew I wasn't getting up for Church this morning. No big deal, right?
It wasn't until 2 when B.B. came in and tried to get in bed with us. This does not work out as he sleeps like an eel on crystal-meth. Squirmy and noisy and all over the bed. So I took him back to his room, and laid down on the floor until he gave in to sleep. Last week (after a week of at least an hour on the floor every night) I moved my body pillow to his room, so I don't have to lay directly on the floor. I finally woke up at 4:30 or so and headed back to my bed.
At 5, B.B. came back in and said his belly hurt. This time I put him in bed with us and tried (in vain) to sleep. At 5:30 the vomiting began. I got him out of bed and to the sink in time, but that was the end of the attempt at sleep for me. I took him in the living room and turned on Toy Story 2 in hopes he'd doze off...instead he continued to puke every 10-15 minutes. He's very resistant to being sick in the toilet so I end up holding him over a little trash can. He doesn't like this either so it usually involves wrestling and trying not to get puked on. He needed a band-aid to help his belly feel better (see picture).
Just after 6, BabyGirl and #1 Son joined us in the living room. I fixed her some Tylenol for the on going fever and settled in to blog about our night & enjoy my first cup of Millstone Irish Cream Decaf, when she turned to look at me and I realized, "This child has Pink Eye!" I woke Husband up to sit with the vomiting baby while I took the eldest to the ER...again. Missed my coffee, only got half way through brushing my teeth before I had to stop and wrestle a puking kid over the toilet, threw on some clothes (that no longer fit), and headed out the door.
BabyGirl has an infection in her throat (either strep or tonsillitis), an ear infection, and pink eye in both eyes. Antibiotics, eye drops, and a suppository for nausea (they gave her one in the hospital and I nearly lost it). At the mention of the suppository, I almost burst in to tears. I said she'd only thrown up once (while we were waiting to see the doctor) so I wanted to avoid traumatizing her. The doctor explained that she needed to keep the antibiotics down and they could make her nauseous. I consented and was very relived to find it was only a gel.
We had to spend an hour and a half waiting on the pharmacy to open so we went to Wal-Mart (got some pretty pink clothes for a sick girl on clearance) for Kleenex, Ginger-ale, Jell-o, and carpet cleaner. Finally got the meds, and some fabulous pink nail polish and headed home.
Husband said B.B. took a nap at 9:30 and hasn't been sick since (thank the Lord). He's eaten half a banana and had a little juice and milk. So far, so good. BabyGirl is napping with her freshly painted nails. I am promising myself to never again say, "I can't take anymore!" Because it turns out, I can. I may not like it, but the Good Lord is getting me through it.

OMG(osh) I'm so sorry Farmwife. I hope that you have a time today to take a nap and rest up. Hugs to you and sick kiddos. Wish I was there to help out.
Hugs and love
Ang
man, poor you. And poor babies. Not fun, not fun. May everyone get well quickly and may you soon get some much needed rest and a full cup of coffee.
I'm so sorry! While I was sighing along with a handful of other "adults" (aka parents with young kids) because the church's coffee kiosk was not up and running today, you were having a truly rough morning!
What a nightmare! Hope that everyone is feeling better soon! Maybe you can get some rest this afternoon.
