Good Morning to you!

Just so you know I'm not being paranoid (and it isn't just a d vs. b issue...I still have to stop and think if those come up on word verification) about BabyGirl's letter issues, here's the list of letters she's writing backwards: S,L,F,E,s,l,i,t,f,&e. The only ones she's writing correctly (out of the 7 she's learned this quarter) are I,T,H,&h (mostly symmetrical).

At any rate, last night she got quieter and quieter as the movie drug on. I was chatting with The Queen Mother on the phone when it hit me, this kid doesn't feel good. Sure enough, her temp was 99.7. This morning it's only 98.9, but hers usually runs about 96.8, so that's still a little high. A slight sore throat & cough. I'm praying NO EAR INFECTION.

B.B. is setting on my lap chanting, "A Bebra, a Bebra, a Bebra!" For those of you not fluent in 2 year old, that's 'zebra.' He's holding a giraffe, but what do I know about it?

BabyGirl is trying to nurse B.B. This could go badly! She nurses her baby dolls, that I'm fine with. I told her her brother is off limits, even if he is playing baby. #1 Son keeps calling BabyGirl 'Farm Wife' and she's calling him 'Farm Boy.' It's always funny when they play at being me and Husband.

BTW, Check out The Queen Mother. She not only posted, but added things to her sidebar! She'll get the hang of this yet!

Oh, blueberry muffins are calling my name!

"a bebra"... I love it. One of the boys used to call elbows - "belbows" and it has stuck, at least for me. They just roll their eyes and correct me now. It's a sad, sad day when they get big enough to correct their mother.

It's great that you are aware of her struggles, just keep an eye on them and take mental note. I'm not an elementary reading/writing expert, but in my experiences with them, it is fairly common for kids to mix up certain letters and write them backwards at first. Some outgrow it, some don't... and that's when extra help needs to be given.

My friend's son (who's now in college) had dyslexia, and she said she used to spell out words on a cookie sheet with letter magnets, to help him get the visual image. The Wilson raeding method is supposed to be very good for helping kids with phonics, etc.

My niece who is Baby Girls' age, Monarch, is a whiz at math and science, and has had a harder time with reading and writing...

biggest thing... as you alraedy know, kids pick up on your frustrations. this is true with school. keep encouraging her and telling her she can do it, stay in contact with the teacher, etc...

i know you aren't being paranoid. you're a concerned mommy who wants to help her baby girl grow into a confident big girl! it's good that you're noticing things, that way if she continues to struggle you will be able to get her help.

Praying she feels better soon!

I really didn't think you were paranoid either, just wanted to offer any help I could in case some of the letter errors were the "d" and "b". Honestly, I wish the parents of the kids I work with in school cared half as much as you and were just a little bit concerned. You are a fantastic mom.
