I think I may be loosing my mind. This morning we had to go to town. It's grocery day and I had to take the movies back to the video store. We also had to renew the tags on the van. So Husband got up, we paid the bills, dressed the kids, and drove to town. When we got there we discovered the DMV was closed. As we were pulling out of the parking lot, Husband asked if I brought the movies. Nope. They were in the video cabinet at the house. Husband dropped me off at a VERY BUSY Wal-Mart, took the kids and headed back to the house to get the movies. So I got to do my shopping in the peace and quiet of Wal-Mart three days before Christmas.
Now I'm watching It's a Wonderful Life for the first time in I don't know how many years. I'm not sure I've ever seen it as an adult. This really is a good movie. It cannot be written off as sentimental Christmas fluff.
As of now, Husband will get 4 full days off work for the Holiday. We suspected he'd have to work Saturday and Tuesday only giving him two days off for Christmas. Now I'm awaiting an email...or lack of an email. If he doesn't send one he still has tomorrow off.
Because of this he said he'd like to have Christmas in the morning. That way the kids will have all weekend to play with their gifts instead of waiting until he only has 2 days left off work. At first I didn't want to, I'd have rather waited. But then I figured it doesn't really matter what day we do it. So tomorrow it is...and we're also having Christmas with Husband's extended family tomorrow. I have to clean our house (big time), bake a pie, make a cranberry salad, and maybe fix Halleyville's breakfast treat she had on her blog last week (that's my big Christmas breakfast for the family).
Am I a glutton for punishment or have my hormones gone completely haywire making me agree to things I can never actually accomplish? I know we can have Christmas in a dirty house, but I'd rather not. The kitchen needs mopping, the tubs need scrubbing, the dishes need washing...and the laundry is waiting to be folded...What have I gotten myself into? At least dinner isn't until tomorrow evening. And with a grand total of 49 people who may be there, no one will notice if my offerings are less than stellar.
Guess I'd better get busy if I'm going to make it through tonight!
BTW, Nick the bartender in It's a Wonderful Life played a gambler in Guys & Dolls (I think Angie the Ox...maybe). And Alfalfa from the Little Rascals is the guy who pushes the button to open the gym floor at the dance.
The top pic is my lighted gift. A friend of Daddy's made it for me last Christmas. They trade Grandkid stories. It's a glass block with a hole drilled in the side and lights threaded through. My Jack wind stopper is sitting behind it. The red dove was one of my first Christmas ornaments, and the little gnome is my Hallmark stocking hanger. I think he's the sweetest thing!
