What's in a Name?

Isn't she beautiful? Yes, it's a girl! We're so proud. Husband wants to name her 'Blue' because of her color and in keeping with our cartoon character theme. Baby Girl wants to name her 'Belle' in keeping with her obsession of all things Princess. I said to #1 Son, "So, what do you think we should name her, #1 Son?" I guess he heard, "So, what do you think we should name her? '#1 Son'?" Because he answered, "Yeah! #1 Son! That a good name, Mommy!"

Last night as we were saying prayers, things got a little odd. Baby Girl has been praying for a baby sister since September. Recently #1 Son has begun praying for a baby brother. They're prayers have taken on a dueling aspect:
Dear God, Please give us a baby boy.
NO! God, Please give us a BABY GIRL!! We already have 2 boys!
NO! ME WANT A BABY BOY!!!
NO!!! GOD'S GOING TO GIVE US A SISTER!!!

This is when I have to step in and explain that praying is not a game of tug-o-war. Last night it went something like this:
Dear God, Please give us a baby boy.
God, Please give us a baby boy and a baby girl!
Yeah! A baby boy and a baby girl!
And Please let us name the baby girl 'Aurora'. (Is that OK, Mom?)
No, we're not naming a baby after the dog.
OK then, God, let us name the baby girl 'Cinderella'. (That'll be OK, Mom.)
And let us name the baby boy 'LARRY-BOY'!
Yeah! And let us name the baby boy 'Larry-Boy'!
Oh dear...

I should also tell you that on Sunday both Baby Girl and Art the Omnipotent declared that I am pregnant. As it will be a while yet before we know, I just wanted it to be known that they separately and without fore knowledge of the other's declaration told me this. I wonder, are my daughter and my best friend moving in the prophetic? Hmmmm......

Husband bought me this sign Monday. We hung it on a big tree by our driveway yesterday. I think we're working on a chicken theme around here. There's my "Welcome to the Coop" flag, and a rooster with a spinner in it Busha brought me last summer. I think I may like this...Maybe I'll do my kitchen in chickens too. I already have the oven mitts.

More news: Did is engaged!!! J.J. (her boyfriend of 2 years) proposed to her Friday night. I'm so excited! I've known since Saturday morning. Thank goodness she finally posted. I couldn't be expected to wait any longer!

Life is changing so quickly. Inkling is getting married in just over a month. Princess is having a baby (not sure I've mentioned that before). And now Did is tying the knot...Oh, and I'll be 30 in 27 days (there Inkling, are you happy? I'm owning up to it). What's next?

You are just full of big news! I so want to pet that little goat. I am trying to convince Cynical that we need one. What's a goat with five cats already walking around?

Gasp....I'd temporarily forgotten about your birthday. Hmm....wonder if you could get a senior citizens discount on that hotel room you'll be gracing the weekend of the wedding? And will you need to be on of the people we transport from the entrance to the ceremony in a golf cart? Oh, and have you registered for polyester (double knit of course), a cane, and a plethora of old-lady wrinkle creams and other products? Just wondering. Of course, I, being the loving and sensitive cousin, want to help you cross this passage into 30-hood with dignity and compassion. Okay, I'm gonna go pretend to be Catholic or something and go to Confession to repent of being sort of mean to you in your elderliness. I do love you, really and truly. And as a wise Farmwife once said to me, 30 is the new 20. (Actually she told me 31 was the new 21, and tried to encourage me to drink. If she would just stay unpregnant long enough to go with me......)

Blue Belle ... that's a nice compromise, ey? She looks sweet.

As for turning 30 ... I was a bit saddened by it, but I take comfort whenever I hear Five for Fighting's 100 Years "33, You're on your way. Every day's a new day." Lifts my spirits every time. Seeings as how I'll turn 33 this year, I guess I'll have to search elsewhere for a new happy thought. Until then ... roll the windows down and sing. Oh yah. It's good.
