Alright, Husband is itching for me to tell you the answer to yesterday's Farm Trivia. Ya'll had some good guesses, and got close, but no cigar. What you saw were piglet testicles. Husband castrated 4 of the piglets from our first litter yesterday. I was out watching him rearrange the chicken house to accommodate our new arrivals when I nearly stepped on them (in my new boots none the less). "Are these what I think they are?!" "I dunno. What do you think they are?" I thought right. I just needed to share them with you. You're very welcome.
I have 3, count them, 1-2-3 kids with ear infections. It's so bad that yesterday I found #1 Son laying on the living room floor wrapped in a blanket playing "ear infection." How weird is that?
Baby Girl had a cold and refused to take any decongestant. And when I say refused, I mean REFUSED!!! She'd kick, scream, clamp her mouth shut, and if I succeeded in getting it in her mouth, she'd spit it out, or vomit it up. She's nothing if not determined. The nurse practitioner said she MUST take a decongestant. She prescribed one called Nalex. Actually she gave me some samples to see if we can get Baby Girl to take it before we get a full prescription for it. so far, so good.
The boys are both on Amoxicillian since this is their first bouts in quite a while. Baby Girl on the other hand is on Omnicef. All I can say is, Thank the Lord for insurance ($85 a bottle), flavoring (I had them add bubblegum flavor to it at the pharmacy), and red food coloring (3 drops in the bottle made it the required pink color so very necessary to a certain princess).
5 more chickens joined our brood today. We ran by Rural King (in "our" town) to check out their birdies, and they had some mystery brown egg laying chicks. I'm hoping for some Silver Laced Wyandottes, but we can't be sure. We did some checking at McMurray Hatchery last night and think the ducklings are Rouens and the Turkeys are Broad Breasted Bronze. We should know by mid-summer.

Gag me....ugh....and I just got off of perusing PETA's website for the first and only time. I'm not quite certain what got into me....guess it was a strange way of procratinating from the ongoing task of creating an invitation list. What a hoot...if the peta folks knew, they'd be croaking.
Wow...now I've learned something about meds. Next time I get sick, I may just ask for the liquid variety so I can have the color and flavor added too. Sounds like fun. I was like Baby Girl when I was little too. Not even my doctor's warning about developing a brain abcess, which he described in gross terms that were aimed at my biggest fear (losing my intellect), motivated me to take the ongoing and perennial drugs for sinus issues. Maybe we can arrange for Baby Girl to see her great-uncle M take medicine....it's quite the entertainment.
Only in Farm Wife's blog can you find testicles blatantly posted with no advisories ;) - well at least I recognized it as some type of animal part.
Hope the kids get better real soon.
Testicles? I never would have guessed that ... nope ... never.
First and foremost, yuck! (And I never would have guessed that in a million years.)
Secondly, here's hoping everyone at your house is sans ear infection soon.
I should have gotten Ed to check out the picture ... with his country boy background I know he would have recognized those testicles ... well, not those particular ones! :) Sorry to hear about the ear infections. As a child I lost my hearing in my left ear and constantly had ear infections until I was in my 20's. Seems having a baby cured that for me, but it also seems that I passed along the bad genes. Good luck!
you make me proud babe. Sympathy on the ear infections. Know how you feel. I loved the testicles.
When my brother Choi was younger we had one of our horses "cut" and he carried those testicals around in a jar for about two weeks until my mom could pry them away from him in his sleep.
Hope the kids get better. Yin had an ear infection from the day she got to the US until 7 weeks later when she had tubes put in her ears. It has been much better since then. Hope they get to feelin better!
The Princess had ear infections CONSTANTLY! As a result, I have been getting Pumpkin vaccinated against them (prevnar). So far, she's only had one in her life, so either it's working,or shewasn't gonna get 'em anyway (guess I"ll never know).
