Announcements, announcements, ann-oun-cements!

I don't know if many of you went to Church camp as kids, but there's a certain sing song way to call for announcements. Grace might remember it.

We are currently a satellite/cable free family. Last night the remote to our satellite receiver died. The power button on the box has been gone for a long time, so it was suddenly rendered useless. I do not see this as a coincidence since I've been talking about & trying to have the boob tube on less & less lately. I'm not very good at sticking with it, but wanted to.

So I called to see about getting a new receiver (a DVR none the less....doubt that would help curb our viewing habits) but decided we didn't want a new 2 year contract. I had it disconnected & Husband & I spent the next 45 minutes taking apart the entertainment center & cleaning it out & behind it (I don't think that had happened since the night of the mouse).

We currently get one channel on the rabbit ears, but that will be gone with the Schwinn (name that movie) when everything switches to digital. It's FOX so I can keep up with House & an episode of Scrubs every now & again, but it's a bit fuzzy. Our main staple will be the DVD's & videos we already have.

We're looking into high speed Internet, but around here that could mean a minimum of $60 a month for 1 Mbps! Don't think I'll agree to that. We shall see. Verizon, why can't you send DSL out my way?!

Maybe we'll just invest in board games & more books.

Poor you! Good thing you've only got half the kids at home this morning...maybe you can make "clean up" a fun game...you know, "whoever finds the most things in the living room to put in their bedroom WITHOUT taking things out of their bedroom, gets to pick the next room we take things to!"

Hee hee...goes along with Daring Young Mom's "Worst Incentive Ever" post from the other day... :D

You'll be fine, except for the stupid internet fee...but I'm telling you...call the other satellite providers and tell them what you need...it's totally worth it for the DVR...can't live with live TV...

Call me crazy, but I don't miss tv, and I still cannot believe I can say that in all truthfulness. But after 2.5 years of finding a zillion other things to fill up my day, if tv did come back into my life, I would have no idea how to fit it in. Granted, if they did bring the West Wing back, I'd have to buy the DVD's.

If you'll allow me to be your idealistic cousin for one second....

I have a dream. A dream where your children suddenly discover that there is more to life than television. A dream where your children find out how joyous it can be to work and play in harmony. A dream where their little imaginations will suddenly entertain them more thoroughly than any television programming ever could. A dream where their creativity, thoughtfulness, and intellect is tapped by books, puzzles, arts & crafts, nature, and a sudden urge to help out around the house. A dream where the highlight of their day is unloading the dishwasher or folding clothes for their mommy. A dream where they go to bed early without a fuss so their mommy can unwind with a good book or a good movie on DVD.

That is my dream in all of its idealistic blissfulness. Don't you wish you had some of what I've been smoking?! =)

I wish my husband would wean himself from tv. The western channel is where he stays.

Wasn't the announcement thingy part of the Children's Church production we all did for the younger kids. I can't remember the name of it to save my life, but we all had a part that we played every single week. I seem to recall it was right after one of those performances that Swiss Miss's dad had a total meltdown about something my brother did. He totally went off on him and completely embarassed his poor daughter. Wow, did I get off subject or what!!
