You give me fever

Quick question for all you mama's out there. When your kids are running a fever, do you always treat the fever with Tylenol or Motrin, or do you let the fever run it's course? Since BabyGirl was on antibiotics & they did nothing to help her, we're pretty sure this is a virus. Everything I've read says viruses thrive at normal body temperatures. The fever helps kill the virus.

Because of this (and the fact that BabyGirl ran a fever for a full 5 days), I've decided not to treat the boys' fevers until bed time. I have no problem giving them something to make them more comfortable while they're sleeping, but I'd rather let their fevers work for us during the day when I can keep an eye on them.

Husband is worried. The boys are miserable at times & he'd rather give them medicine & have them feel better. I'd rather 2 days of misery & it's all over than a full 5 days of fever & cranky kids stuck indoors.

This is not really an open debate, I just want to know what you do with your kids when they're sick. To medicate or not to medicate (and for the record, I have no problem giving my kids medicine when it's needed).

I let the fever run its course unless it's night and it's keeping them from sleep or it's dangerously high. I let the body heal itself when it can during the day.

Since The PRincess had a febrile seizure when she was younger, I *always* treat fevers. They make me too nervous otherwise.

I let it run it's course unless it's dangerously high for a long time, or if it's nighttime and they can't sleep thru it. Although alot of times it seems that my kids do nothing but sleep if they have a fever.

I let the fever run it's course as long as it's below 101. For some reason that's a magic number for me, I can't remember if a doctor told me that or if I read it in a book somewhere but it's stuck in my head for some reason.

In other news...Ang has decided to pass on her good fortune to you! She'd like to let you pick the prize you'd like for the Mom, I'm Bored! contest!

Drugs. Paracetamol, ibuprofen, aspirin, phenylephrine hydrochloride (which is NOT as good as pseudoephedrine but which we now have to use because of the junkies buying it up at the chemist)I've got a heap of stuff! The thing is, you don't know if the fever is from a virus or bacteria, usually, so it is a 50/50 chance you are taking with their suffering.

I try to let it run its course if the fever isn't too high. For me, "too high" is 100 AND miserable. If he's not miserable, I might let it go up a bit to kill the virus more quickly. My doctor always advises me to not overmedicate and to let some things run their course, so that's what I try to do.

don't medicate unless it is above 101 for Capt Chaos, and medicate lightly for Tiny Princess right now. I'm too freaked about those seizures...

Otherwise, we just keep dumping water and diluted juice or gatorade into CC, and run a humidifier/vaporizer in his room at night.

Unless the doctor says to treat it, we don't...
