The healing powers of painters tape

Long ago, B.B. discovered the magical healing properties of the band aid. He's demanded one with ever drop of blood that has risen to the surface on his little body. He has screamed for one with every bump & bruise. He's demanded bandaids for his tongue when he's bit it. He's wanted them plastered all over himself in place of his clothing. He's put them on his belly to prevent vomiting (Inkling, have you tried this? It works for B.B.)

After I caught him & BabyGirl & the remains of a brand new box of Batman bandaids in the dry bathtub one afternoon, I told him they were only to be passed out now in case of actual blood loss or broken skin. This has been a thorn in his side. He's not happy unless he's sporting a little sticky strip. I'm not happy about buying a giant value box of band aids every other week.

A few weeks ago, Husband was painting the kids bathroom. B.B. was tearing through the house (as is his normal mode of movement) when he banged his shin into something. He came screaming to us that he needed a band aid. Sorry, Bud. No blood, no broken skin, no band aid. Complete melt down ensued.

Husband had a flash of brilliance, slapped a short lenght of blue painters tape on B.B.'s leg, and sent him merrily on his way. B.B. was so proud of that blue tape & informed me, "Dis blue tape made my owie all better, Mom! It doesn't even hurt now!"

This morning he's sporting a 3 inch piece across a scratch from yesterday that's perfectly scabbed over (he requested the tape this time). Who knew? And costwise, I'm pretty sure we can heal a lot more owies with small strips of painters tape for much less than it would cost to heal the same owies with actual band aids. No, I'll keep them for real injuries.
