The FarmWife vs FarmBoy debate for this weekend is....what do you call your parents? I am a 31 year old woman with four children of my own and I still call my parents Mama & Daddy. Husband finds this very humorous. Especially that I call my father Daddy. I always have. My sister calls him Daddy. I'm not sure that my brother does....maybe it's a male thing. But I've known many men to call their fathers Daddy. Perhaps it's a southern thing.
It makes me a bit sad sometimes that my children call me Mommy & not Mama. I tired to instill Mama in their vocabulary, but it just didn't take. Every now and then I get Mama & it makes me all warm & fuzzy inside, but most of the time I get Mommy.
When we moved to Tennessee my mother had to retrain herself. When we lived in Illinois we were the only kids around who called their mother Mama, so she always knew when it was one of us hollering for her. In Tennessee, everyone called their mother Mama & QM spent a lot of time looking to see which one of us was talking to her when we were now where around.
When Syd was tiny, she called Art Mommy. Her mother quickly corrected her & told me about it later. She sounded horrified. I thought it was funny. Now I understand.
So, who are your folks? Mama & Daddy, Mother & Father, Mom & Pop, Ma & Pa, Evelyn & Burt?

Mom or Ma...depending on the situation...but I was NEVER a GRIT, or the daughter of a GRIT...unfortunately my folks are as Yankee as you get, both being from New York and all...ick... :(
And, no matter what, til the day I die, he will always and forever be my Daddy. I'm with you though FW...no one around me understands...
I'm working on Capt Chaos to instill Mama and Daddy, but we'll see, as he's surrounded by well-meaning folk who call me Mom and BB Dad...ugh!
I like it that you call your folks mama and daddy. Without being unkind, I have to say I can see why Farmboy doesn't get it. If I were him, I would have grown up saying sir to both of his parents. Okay. Trying to be nice now. Are you going to have to censor me? My mouth just feels like running today. If you only knew all the things I wanted to say and didn't......
most of the time it is mom and dad, unless i am upset when i talk to my dad then he is daddy, he has been daddy alot lately..... if i am talking about my mom most of the time i call her mother, but she calls her mother mother and her mother called her mother mother, so that is a family thing i guess, mom didn't like to hear her mom call her g-ma mother until later when she started to refer to her as mother herself..... ok, now i'm getting confused
oh and btw... "mom" is coming.... they will begin to call you mom everyonce in a while cause it makes them feel bigger but then momma or mommy comes back. my kids call me momma most of the time.
I call my dad (ok I'll be nice I call him dad).. I call my stepdad..daddy.. I call mom, momma, or mom or if we're out in public with 30 other mommas I call her by her name to get her attention, It's never been called in disrespect and she's okay with that she prefers it that way too. I call my step mom by her first name. Cause I can't bring myself to put her in a mother category. (Sorry long story there)
Sorry, just Mom and Dad. I call my youngest brother, Bubby, though and he calls me Sissy.
Mine are Mama and Daddy, but I'm from the same place you and Art are. DH calls his folks Mom and Dad. I also had Grandmama and Grandaddy on both sides, just with their last names one one side and first names on the other added on. Like Grandmama J(last name) and Grandaddy J(last name) or Grandmama Irene and Grandaddy Van Troy. J's family has a gamit of names for the various grandparents, as does my brother-in-law. Which I've always found interesting... that and my mom and dad don't want to be called Grandmama and Grandaddy but we think that is because there are still grandmamas living.
Good question though. Really interesting answers.
When I was younger I called my mom... Muz, and my dad daddy.
I still call my dad daddy sometimes, but mainly dad.
I call my Grandma- Grams and Gram
My parents- Mom and Dad, or GranWendy and Grandaddy if I'm talking about them with Baby Bear. Or Grandma or Grandpa V.
Hubby's parents. Mom and Dad,or by their first names. I've had times where Tech Mom hasn't responded to her name, but when I said "Mom!" she heard me. Silly woman. ;)
Mine are Mom and Dad. Big Boy (4) still calls me Mama but for some reason Monkey (2) prefers Mommy. Hubs is "Baba" which is the Albanian version of Daddy since that is where he is from.
My aunt still calls my Grandpa "Daddy" and she blames it on her southern roots. Problem is she moved away from the south when she was barely 12.
I have a new Hot Mama Revolution post up! Come check it out and partake in the fun. :)
