I'm pretty sure everyone has these days. The days when you'd rather set on the couch and watch an entire season of Friends than engage in your own life. Days when it feels perfectly permissible to ingest only chocolate chip cookies, hot dogs from the microwave, and Coca-Cola. Days when you'd ship your children off to a Swiss boarding school just so they couldn't ask you the same question 13 times in 60 seconds.
I know how QM feels about it being fall. School is in. Summer is over. Fall is not here. Not by a long shot. I need fall. I need the cool crisp air. I need a good reason to make chili (instead of making it when it's 100 degrees outside like I did today). I need to wear a turtle neck & corduroys. I need a weiner roast and nights setting by the fire. I need the trees to change color. I need a cleansing rain. I need a change.
Our lives have changed a great deal lately. Bitsy was born. B.B. is attempting (slowly) to potty train. School is back in session leaving me with only 2 kids most of the day. But life still feels stagnant right now.
Maybe it's because everything fell apart at one time. The truck broke down, the washer died, the van tires had to be replaced, the kitchen faucet was demolished. Is it possible that I'm falling apart as well? If I joined Art in her crusade for better eating, would it help? Should I give up my soda/sugar addiction and switch to water? Should I dig out my pilates DVD and use it while Husband drives the kids to school in the mornings? Should I read something light and uplifting? Should I do a thurough early fall cleaning? Should I do something (anything) productive?
Or should I lay back down on the couch & watch the second season of The Hills?

I am soooo with you, girl! You just articulated it much better than I could have. Good luck and if you decide to stay on the couch, remember tomorrow is another day and everything that needs done will still be there!
It sounds like the January blahs have hit a bunch of us a tad early lately. I've stuck to posting my memes for lack of wanting to bore y'all with what I haven't made of my life. It's so frustrating, and I'm with you on the wishing for fall.. cantaloupe or no cantaloupe.
Everyone seems to be experiencing this fall-aparted-ness.
I blame August. See if things don't immediately seem rosier on Saturday, aka September.
I think you should make yourself a strawberry limeade. (I used frozen limeade mix, some water, some frozen whole strawberries, and a pinch of raw sugar.) Drink it through a straw, as it really is much better that way. I'd suggest a margarita, but know Bitsy puts a cramp in your bar-hopping style. Just kidding. You never barhopped in your life, unless you've taken to jumping over your own kitchen island lately and didn't tell me.
As for the water thing, yes, you should drink more. Your kidneys will love you for it. But no, you shouldn't give up sugar entirely. For that means saying no to chocolate. And as every DARE graduate knows, you should never say no to chocolate. Just drugs. Which doesn't include chocolate.
Finally, you should apply for a credit card in an interesting name, say Alfredo Gertudo Gonzalez the Third. Then you should buy a plane ticket to British Columbia when your card arrives. Then you should hop on that plane and come see me. And no, I don't think Alfredo is obliged to have to buy tickets for your brood. He could, however, buy incentives for your husband to keep your brood alive while you vacate the premises for another country. And if you fly to Seattle and drive across, I don't think you have to have a passport. Which is good, because I don't think you look like an Alfredo. And that would just be too hard to explain to the border crossing dudes.
love, me =)
Do any of the things you listed EXCEPT watch the hills, UGGGHHHH!!!! I love you, I know exactly where you're coming from. It'll pass but in the mean time if it brings about a positive change, that's great. I wish you were coming tommorrow. You know Kate and I will be shopping for you as always. Go look at S.P.'s myspace page, that's bound to make you feel better!
Oh, Farmwife, you are not alone. I think we all do this. And you know, sometimes you need a marathon of Special Victims Unit and some Rice Krispy treats to get you through, it blows over and you're all the better for all of the reflection.
And I too should join in on the less soda/more water crusade.
Isn't it horrible when you feel like that ? I wish I had a yummy recipe like Inkling to share with you. I've never seen The Hills, but I think you should just enjoy a bit of grungey luxury. Lay back, eat your body weight in food you love, watch rubbish tv and, hopefully you might wake up the next day feeling just a bit better.Personally I like the Alfredo idea. Would you go for a full goatee beard or just the moustache ? Sarah x
