Why I should never leave my husband and children unattended:

Bitsy & I had a WIC appointment this morning. Then I needed to grocery shop. Husband kept the three older kids at home. Pretty straight forward.

WIC took a long time (missing workers, fill in's from another office...you get the picture), Wal-Mart took a long time (find pants that fit postpartum body & don't look like pajama bottoms, one diaper blow-out, and don't even get me started on how hard it is to nurse a baby while pulling a shopping cart through the store), McDonald's took a long time (you didn't expect me to do all that on an empty stomach did you?). I finally got home a full 4 hours after I left.
I packed Bitsy into the house in her car seat to hear the boys yell, "Mommy's Home! Mommy's Home!" followed closely by BabyGirl's shout of, "I got a Dalmatian! I got a Dalmatian!" and Husband's goofy grin & declaration of his undying love for me...repeatedly. "I love you, Baby. Honey, I love you."
Wait just a cotton pickin' minute! OK, can we back up a little bit? Husband slips on his shoes and starts for the door wanting me to follow. As we're heading out the door he starts telling me a story about an ad he found for free puppies. Finally I said, "Wait. Stop and tell me what kind of puppy it is." First of all it isn't a puppy at all. It's three puppies. Yup, count them...1,2,3. Three puppies. Three girl puppies.
Last weekend Husband started talking about an outside dog for the kids. We don't let the inside dogs run outside because of the fleas & ticks & dirt. The Great Danes are so big they trample the kids without meaning to. He saw an ad for one of Lilly's siblings, but I didn't want another dog that needed major grooming...or want to spend the kind of money they were asking for him (a good deal more than we paid for Lilly). He called about a free lab mix but it was already gone. BabyGirl started asking for a Dalmatian (I said never in a million years).
Today he came across an ad for free pups: Almost 8 weeks old, mother is a coon hound. He loaded up the kids & made the short trek through the country & came home with 3 pups. His argument was that if he only got one it would howl and cry all night long. So he was going to get two...until it was time to leave & #1 Son wouldn't part with the puppy he had latched on to.
So now I guess I should introduce you to Annie (the black & tan pup) who belongs to B.B., Star (the black pup with a small white star on her chest) who belongs to #1 Son, and Crystal (the blue tick...that's black & white) who belongs to BabyGirl. I'll try to get a better picture later...they really are sweet little things.
Their father is a black lab & their mom is a blue tick coon hound. If you ask the kids they'll tell you #1 Son has a black lab, B.B. has a coon hound...aroo! (can't say coon hound without howling at the celling), and BabyGirl has a Dalmatian. This is as close as she's going to get.
The jury is still out on how I feel about the puppies. Personally I think Husband owes me one. A really big one!!
And I thought I was the cool parent when I brought home a bag of temporary tatoos for the kids...that's what I get for trying.

he owes you a date night out with just you, him and bitsy at your favorite restaurant for that. or a housekeeper to come in and clean up after the kids and dogs for you for the next 6 months. minimum.

K, this was enough to make me delurk. Wow, those look nothing like the pups we had that were lab/blue tick. Maybe it had something to do with Lab female, blue tick/mix male? I'ld say your DH just added a whole lot of work to his list, but we know the truth, don't we. Mama will be the caregiver, as usual. He owes you big.

Thank you for delurking, Mim. In his defence, as they are outside dogs, they do fall under his care. I don't do outside chores. I have my hands full in the house! :o)

Lauren, I like the housekeeper idea!!

Well, good. My DH handles most of the outside chores. He lets the dog slip to me and the boys though.
By the way, I live in the southern Illinois area too.

Good Gravy Girl..I don't want your vet bill between the cats, dogs, and rabbits, and all your animal population it has to be close to a mortgage. .
