It's done...or as done as it's going to get for the moment. The "to stain or not to stain" debate is on going. That will depend on the weather this weekend & the stain choices as the local hardware store. If nothing else I want to put a protectent on it to keep the wood safe from small children.
It has been decided that instead of building a second book case, Husband is going to use the left over wood to fix up the old book case for the boys. That's fine by me. Besides, today's efforts took away from precious four wheeling time.
I have discovered one thing in the course of this project: Amy Wynn Pastor I am not. I think, given an air compressor and nail gun, I could assemble something simple, but the measuring and math alludes me. Husband can look at the lengths of pine spread out in his truck and envision the finished product. I cannot. I see wood. He can figure just how long to cut each board. I do not think in fractions of an inch. He is not a carpenter, but can build a shed, a toy box, a book case, a corner shelf with little to no problem. I would cut through the saw horses holding up the wood. Some day I will have to post pictures of the things Husband has built since we were married.
But he cannot hem a skirt, set a sleeve, pin a dart, roll out a pie crust, rearrange a blog template, sort through 6 years of kids clothes, or carry & deliver a baby . He probably could if he ever tried (all except the baby thing), but that may be a cold day in hades...or at least the day he sings the correct lyrics to a song.
The picture on the left is of the only injury sustained during construction...don't make fun of my skinny legs. And it isn't that bad now. I didn't take the loose shelves out of the old book case before moving it & one fell out on my leg. Thank goodness my sweat pants were between my leg and the shelf.
The middle/lower picture is the old book case...fallen middle shelf, bowed sides, mess and all. The picture on the right is the end result. Note the free space left for more books!!
It wasn't until this post that I realized my blog is the same color as BabyGirl's room...no wonder I liked the new template!
