Farm Wife's Big Adventure

What an adventure today has been. This morning was my appointment with Old Doc. It was supposed to be at 9:45, but he was running behind...by a full hour. This is very unusual for Doc. I've never had to wait more than 20 minutes before. While we were waiting a very pregnant young woman came into the waiting room. She looked 9 months along and absolutely terrified. I have never seen anyone look so afraid in my life. She looked like she might burst into tears at any moment. I felt so bad for her.

Doc said he thought I was measuring right where I should be in regards to my dates (making twins doubtful). He said it's nearly impossible to date a pregnancy this early on by uterine size. But he did schedule an ultra-sound for Tuesday at 11. Doc likes to do an early ultra-sound when he knows there will be a c-section to help set the date as accurately as possible...besides he didn't think it was a bad idea to check for twins. We did get to hear baby's heart beat. Doc wasn't sure we'd be able to since it's still so early on, so that was exciting. It was very faint, and we had to filter out my pulse in the placenta, but it was still there.

We went down into the hospital to have my blood drawn for all the lab work. We were taken into a waiting room to sit until the lab tech came to get us. I noticed the tech walk up and when I looked up from my paper I discovered she was an old friend I had worked with at C***P all those years ago. Micky was the one who told me I ought to start journaling for the baby therefore bringing on my love of documenting my life and eventually blogging. I hadn't seen her since Baby Girl was just a few months old. It was nice to get a chance to catch up a bit.

Since we were all the way over in P'ton (where Doc's office is) and they have a Wendy's, I talked Husband into running to the drive-thru. I love Wendy's and the nearest one is an hour away. I was very happy with my Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, small fries, and Frosty to dip them in. Yum!!!

After a quick stop at the grocery store Husband and I headed back to the house. We got just outside of our old hometown when we came upon an accident. And old lady that was parked in front of us at the grocery had taken a sharp curve too fast and slid off the wet road into an electric pole. A man had stopped traffic on both sides of the road and then walked down to her car. She was conscious, there were plenty of people to help, we have no cell phone, she was in front of a farmhouse, Husband had to get to work, and Busha was babysitting the boys, so we tried to go around the stopped cars. That's when the man who stopped the cars came up and waved us down. There was a power line in the road and it couldn't be seen until we were almost on top of it. He hadn't told anyone why he stopped traffic so we weren't the only ones confused. About that time our fuel light came on, so Husband backed into a driveway and headed back to town.

When we got home there were two packages from Little BIL sitting on the cabinet. He told me he had mailed Christmas presents to us last week for all the kids. He sent jewelry boxes for all 3 of his nieces, his sister, and two s.i.l.'s. He told me to divide them up as I saw fit. I let Baby Girl pick first and she picked the biggest one because it played music. I picked one with peacocks on it (in the picture) and packed the others up to give to the other girls on Sunday. He also sent the small pewter figurine for #1 Son and the dragon bell for B.B. They aren't real happy that I won't let them, but I'd like them to last at least until Christmas.
Now I have potato soup to make and hats and gloves to find in preparation for our cold snap. It's beginning as I write. Rainy and 35...ugh!

Glad you got to see your old doc today! It means so much to have a doctor you trust. Now we wait until Tuesday, when you find out if there was another heartbeat hiding out in there, too. ;-)

Glad to hear all seems well, and that you did make it home safe and sound and the older lady was okay. Hehe, we have a dragon bell much like BB's that Grandma Vesta gave us. We use it to confuse the dog :). Enjoy staying cozy and warm and I will wait with baited breath until Tuesday (isn't that a gross phrase? Baited breathe... it just sounds so gross)
