Take a Peek

Because today has been a great success (and because I connected at 34.6...Seriously fast for us), I thought I'd drop in again and share some pictures I took. I've had the kids outside from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm today. They have run all around our yard and woods. I took them to the playground (across the street from Pilot's old place of employment). We went to Uncle Gick and Unkie Di's and helped put up hog fence and jump off hay bales (I wish I could post those pics, but alas, Husband says no faces).

For once I remembered to take the camera along on our adventure. I took my film camera, but promptly realized the battery was dead, so instead I filled the memory card on Little BIL's digital. That flower grows across part of our yard every spring. They're tiny, but hundreds of them cluster just east of the woods. They range from pure white to lavender. They're so delicate and pretty. The kids pick them and bring them to me all the time, but they're too small to put in water.

As we were heading in to town we passed an old barn and out buildings. It sets across from Uncle E's in the woods. I've never been in to see it and thought this would be the perfect opportunity. B.B. Was napping and the older 2 were listening to Larry Boy, so I slipped off to have a look. Going into an area like that is like stepping into another time. The silence engulfed me. It doesn't set that far off the road, but it feels like it's miles from anything. The roof was gone on this one, but the walls seemed sturdy. They were beautiful.

This is the trim on a building across from the playground. The town is very small (less than 2,500 I think) and the playground sets in the middle of the town square. As the kids ran off their energy I took a good long look at some of the old buildings. This one is abandoned right now, but used to house a cabinet maker (maybe). I was enthralled with the detail of the paint. I wonder how long it's been since this was painted. I'm so glad it showed up in the photo (the camera isn't great), you may need to click on it to see better.

On a totally different note, there are posters up at Baby Girl's school that the kids made. They're all about drinking and drugs. One of them says, "Drinking and Driving can make you seriously dead."

B.B. is giving kisses again. He's been on a kissing strike for almost 3 months now. He kissed my dad when they were up here last. I was green with envy. He would kiss his dad on occasion but only when he forgot about his strike. If you asked for a kiss, he'd offer you his cheek. I was waiting for his Excellency to offer me his signet ring to kiss. I'd only been really kissed by him once or twice in the past 3 months. This week he started giving them out again. I can't seem to get enough. Maybe I'm storing up in case there's another shortage.

Baby Girl is going on her first over nighter tomorrow. Unkie Di invited her to sleep in the camper with her and her other nieces. Baby Girl is thrilled. Last time she made it until bed time and had to come home, but she was barely 3 then. Now she's all about going with the "big girls." I'm more worried about me!

One last picture. These miniscule things were hanging out at the bottom of a tree in the park. I believe weeds are just homeless flowers.

Found the first tick of the year in #1 Son's hair. Fun! And I forgot about sun block (call it winter amnesia) and B.B. has an oh-so-slightly pink nose.

Howdy, Farm Wife! I'm still chuckling to myself - how positively bucolic .. putting up a hog fence and jumping off hay bales!!

City kids don't know what they're missin' !

As opposed to "mostly dead" :) That's funny.

The homeless flowers at the base of the tree in the park look like they might be wild violets. Their leaves look like violets anyway...my mother would know. She knows every flower & plant known to man it seems... I'm trying very hard to follow in her footsteps but am failing miserably.

Ahh... I love old architecture. Looks like some lovely stuff around you. German influence perhaps?
