Will You Be My Valentine?

Happy approaching Valentine's Day. I believe Emily started the theme for today, you might want to check out what shehas to say about it. I have much to say about it.

First of all, it's hard for people. Take for instance my best friend. Art was married on Valentine's day. To have V-day as an anniversary puts double the pressure on a person. But when your husband turns out to be a real... (OK, this is a family friendly site, so I'll just say that I STRONGLY disapprove of him. Not just the things he's done, but of him as a human being. He' s just not good at being a person.) and the marriage has not only hit the rocks, but sunk into the sea, Valentine's Day can doubly suck. But I love her and if I lived remotely near her I would fill her entire van with pink and red latex balloons while it was parked in the school parking lot. Just let those snotty 19 year old college girls watch that and wish their boyfriends would do something half as exciting. So here's to you Art the Omnipotent, All High Queen of Valentine's Day!

My freshman year in High school a friend made us all pink paper hearts to wear. On one side they said "Happy Valentine's Day" and on the other "Valentine's Day Sucks." You could express either sentiment and still fell pretty. I kept my heart until I went to college. I think I wore it every year.

My first Valentine's Day with a boy friend was so exciting. I expected big things and was not disappointed. I got balloons, a stuffed animal, candy, and a necklace. He worked at Subway most of the time we dated. Looking back, he never had a car payment or any other bills. He didn't buy lots of junk (like most teenage boys), I have to assume he worked so we could date. That's sad. He spent all his time trying to wash off the smell of onions and green peppers just so we could go to the movies on Friday night. It may be about 15 years too late, but thanks Stoffer!

This year is the best so far. We're going to Chuck E. Cheese! And if that weren't exciting enough, yesterday Husband gave me the best Valentine's gift I've ever gotten. Forget chocolates and roses. Keep your diamonds and candy hearts. I was given the gift of music! Husband renewed my XM satellite Radio subscription for the year!!!

In case you haven't noticed, I love music. If you know me in the "real world" you know I have a tendency to break into song randomly. If you're a virtual friend I've probably left a comment in form of song lyrics for you at some point. If not, just keep waiting, it's bound to happen.

Husband doesn't share my love of music. He tolerates it. The radio is for commuting only as far as he's concerned. He does sing around the house, but be thankful you can't hear it. It's not that he can't sing well, it's that he doesn't. And he never knows the actual lyrics so he makes them up as he goes. You'd never believe how many things he can rhyme to the word "Thigh." (Did I mention I married him because he makes me laugh?)

So when Husband said I could renew the radio subscription, I was floored. His little brother gave us the radio when he left for the military. It was paid up through the end of February. After that I expected silence. And I was dreading it.

Where else can I listen to Green Day, Weezer, John Denver, Mel Torme, Bill Cosby, Kanye West, the Go-go's, Neil Diamond, Pat Benatar, Jesus Jones, Ozzie & Harriet, Pery Como, Bjork, The White Stripes, R.E.M., Milli Vanilli, Leann Rimes, No Doubt, Fibber McGee and Molly, Jane's Addiction, John Legend, and Faith No More? I'm not a big one for buying CD's. I'm guilty of listening to 3 songs and skipping the rest. I know this means I miss some great music, but that's just how I am. So this radio is perfect for me. I'd have to won my own record store to get all this (do they even have record stores anymore?).

OK, enough gushing about XM Radio. What will I get him for V Day? Probably a wheel barrow. Nothing says I love you quite like farm equipment!
