Weaning and Waiting

Here's our Count Down Calendar. It's the first thing Baby Girl did this morning. Give that girl her sticker or she's not happy.
The weaning of B.B. has begun in earnest. I've been hemming and hawing about it for a few months. Starting to wean him and giving up as soon as he wanted to nurse. I dreaded the sleepless nights I knew were coming. I hated the idea of listening to him cry when I could easily give him what he wanted.

Husband has been in favor of weaning for a few months now. He's ready for a fourth. I wasn't so ready until recently. He was a proponent of weaning cold turkey. I did that with Baby Girl. She was 15 months old and I found out I was expecting #1 Son. She really handled it well (much to my surprise). I knew deep down, B.B. wouldn't be so simple. I told Husband I would be happy to wean B.B. cold turkey, but that I would go to my grandparents' house for the duration. Husband wasn't too keen on that idea.

I've cut him down to nursing before his nap and bed time and he's doing ok with that. Not great. OK. I think the straw that broke this camel's back was when he pulled me to the recliner, pushed me to sit down, climbed up in my lap, pulled up my shirt, and undid the snap on my nursing bra all in a matter of seconds. That's when I decided if he could figure that out, he could figure out a sippy cup.

Last night was tough. As I've mentioned before, my kids are not good sleepers. B.B. Still wants to get up 2-3 times a night to nurse, and spends more than half the night in bed with me. Last night he started early and thought he should nurse every 20-30 minutes. Once I was conscious enough to realize he was making up for lost time in the night, I cut him off all together. That did not go over well. As a result I'm running on about an hour and a half of sleep today.

I'm seriously considering going clod turkey from here. He doesn't understand why he's allowed to nurse at nap time, but no other time. We'll see how it goes. Oh my, he just beaned #1 Son in the head with a sippy cup! That's not a good sign!

Oh, and be sure to pop over to Art's Party and give her a warm first day welcome! I joined an on-line community and it's growing! YEAH!

Keep me posted on the weaning business... I've been nursing Pumpkin for 6.5 months now... and sometimes I wonder how long we can make it... with reoccuring mastitis, I don't know... maybe sooner rather than later (but I'd love to see the math of how much $ I'm saving not buying formula!). She's NOT a bottle girl at all, so weaning for us will be difficult as well!
