Farm Wife Aerobics

I've just done 20 minutes of the best aerobic exercise you can get. I chased and caught two baby chickens! They're about half grown and not exceptionally fast, but they're flighty and that makes me a little nervous. Not to mention Napoleon thought he needed to protect them from me. I will not cross a rooster! They scare the living daylights out of me. Especially this one.

Now I have to say there were 4 chickens loose and I only caught 2 before giving up. Husband would have caught all 4 in half the time it took me to catch 2. He's faster than I by a long shot, in much better shape, and not at all afraid of the chickens. But I'm still proud of myself.

I might have caught the other 2, but they headed into the swampy ground at the bottom of the pasture. I was not going to swim after them. If they get eaten by the bear #1 Son thinks ate my turkeys this summer, it's their own fault! They should've stayed in their pen. It's not like it's cramped! It's probably 1/2 an acre.

We filed our taxes today. This must be a new record. OK, so we had them filed, but we still did our part and it isn't even April!

Tomorrow is Guinea Pig Day! We're following Husband to work to pick them up from his co-worker. No one will sleep tonight... Or tomorrow night for that matter.

I took the boys out to play for about 30 minutes today. Baby Girl didn't want to go, so she sat and watched out the window. She spent most of last summer in self imposed seclusion for the same reason. I think it's all about having to wear clothes outside (Have I mentioned she's a aspiring nudist?).

We blew (or more accurately- the wind blew) bubbles with their giant bubble wand. Grammy and Pa got it for them 2 years ago. It's one of those artsy kind you find at craft fairs. All copper wire and dowel rod, complete with sparkly paint and a big marble on the end. It makes huge, fabulous bubbles! And it came with a recipe for the Ultimate Bubble Solution:
2 Cups Water
1/2 Cup Ultra Dawn Power Plus (I've never tried it with the cheap stuff. If it ain't broke...)
2 Tbs. Light Karo Syrup
This stuff is great. And it smells pretty good, too.

Now I need a nap.

Note: I caught the third chicken! The fourth got back in on it's own.

I would love to trade my day for chasing chickens, guinea pig excitement and yummy bubbles.

This was an interesting read. Never having done it, I was wondering...how do you catch a chicken. Seems like they'd be pretty fast!

Also, I appreciate your bubble solution recipe. We've got one already using Dawn, but I've never heard of one using Karo syrup. We use bubble stuff by the gallon around here, so I'll probably try the recipe.

You barely catch them. If you're me anyway. I wear gardening gloves and try not to fall on my face.
