Ahh... Me Time!

Excuse me if I wax poetic. I went to see Pride and Prejudice today. It was fantastic! I love Jane Austen and have read the book three times (once this summer), and I must say this movie did not leave me cold as many adaptations do.

I'm a big fan of the past endeavors to bring this book to the screen. Greer Garson and Sir Laurence Olivier were wonderful and their Mrs. Bennet never fails to make me laugh out loud. And who doesn't love Colin Firth's Mr. Darcy? The BBC version was beautiful.

But this one was different. I'm not sure exactly what it was, but Keira Knightly made Elizabeth Bennet seem like someone I know. A real person. And Matthew MacFadyen's Mr. Darcy was beautiful. Inkling may never speak to me again for this, but I think I prefer him to Colin Firth. Donald Sutherland was very touching as Mr. Bennet and looked better than he has in his past few movies (better make-up or lighting?).

I took Husband's teenage cousins with me. They are fans of the book as well, and it's nice to spend time with girls again. Husband suggested I take B.B. with me as well. I didn't think he'd be as interested in Pride and Prejudice as he was in Chicken Little. This was the second time since Christmas I've been to the movies without children in tow. Bubba took me to see Narnia when he was visiting.

I haven't spent much time away from my children... Ever. It makes me appreciate them so much more when I get a little down time. And I appreciate Husband more, since he's the one left alone with the wild children of Borneo.

Poor B.B. crawled off and fell asleep on the linoleum in front of the door. He was so worn out. It's tough being left alone with dad all day! Good night!

I love to read "real people" reviews of movies. It sounds like one I'd really like.

I forgot to mention the little girl from Stepmom and Bastard Out of Carolina played Lydia Bennet. I adore her! And she isn't really a little girl anymore.
